Looking for authors/books similar to Confederacy of Dunces/gallows humor?

I loved the book as most do, though I am not the most avid reader. Would love any suggestions for some reads with similar styles of humor, just getting in to Rum Diary by Hunter S Thompson right now, another book Im sure Ill love. Thanks all-

Hmmm that's a toughy. The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, which won the Pulitzer last year, is kind of similar.

If you're getting into HST, you might as well get into Ken Kesey and Tom Wolfe, and you should probably check out Charles Bukowski and John Fante too. Good luck!
