Looking for an MP3 player replacement

Since I'm due to get a new phone this year, I might as well combine it with a new MP3 player.

Is there any GSM phone that anyone can recommend as an MP3 player replacement? a 3.5mm headphone jack would be nice, but if I need to, then I'll use bluetooth headphones.

most phones can get 3.5mm with an adapter.

strongly consider SE's walkman phones...

W850... newer, if looks are an issue, willing to pay a bit more, camera sucks
W900... classic, still good even today, hard to find.. decent camera
W810... non-M2 memory, best all around
W600 or W300... if you're really on budget

*there are more but these are the ones i'm most familiar with...

STAY AWAY FROM SONY ERICSSON PHONES !!!!!!!!

They have alot of so called walkman phones but you still need a good phone and sony isn't it.

PS Motorola's are the worst.

Truth is alot of phones have Mp3 capability. I would try to get something a little more updated than just a phone and mp3 player. I would recommend something with an OS. So upgrades and updates are viable.

Nokia's are known for their durability but dont have many features. The Palms are great phones but most of the software you download is shareware and wifi is a pain in the a**. HTC phones are all windows based phones and have alot of freeware support and come ready to roll but are not as tough as nokia phones and are kinda fragile (cosmetically)

So shop around. Ebay is where I get most of my phones cuz i like to upgrade every few months and the prices are still cheaper in most cases than if I could sign a new 2 yr contract and get that discount everytime.

good luck.

Try a Toshiba phone. They're pretty good with music (in my personal experience with a 904T) with multiple EQ settings and ability to arrange songs by artist or album. They generally come with 3.5mm adapters and use miniSD cards for storage.

err. yeah ignore that post please.

anyway, Sony Ericsson phones are just fine. They are the closest you'll come right now to what you want - A great phone thats capable of replacing mp3 players.

As for the 3.5 mm jack, you can use any standard headphones with SE phones as long as you use their adapter.

Along with the other SE phones mentioned, the k550i (flashed to a w610i) is another good option. Its music player is superior to the one on the w810i. Only problem is that you'll be restricted to 2 GB at the moment since M2s are expensive and the 4GB cards aren't out yet.

If you think 2gigs are sufficient for now, then get a k550 over a w810i. IF you need 4 or 8 gigs right away go with the w810i.

So far, the Motorola ROKR E2 has caught my eye. It has everything so far: decent interface (too used to Motos), SD memory card, dedicated music controls.

I like the SD memory feature because I have a bunch of 1gb cards lying around ATM. I'm a bit scared to go with SE, because all I used were Nokias, Samsungs and Motorolas - however I'm willing to give it a try if I can demo it from someone.

I have bought several Sony phones (for girlfriend) and they were all junk including your little 610. btw it's now a paper weight just like my 290a, 500 and 520a

As for the 4gb cards. We'll let that be your little secret. My 4 gb card works great had it for awhile now.

try ebay.

Its no crime to support the phone you like but you should only talk on what you know and not bash people because their opinion differs.

MP3 player replacement... SE all the way. If you have the money, maybe go for the W880i because it is new... but like all new SE phones it uses M2 so 2GB is your limit as of now (and they're still expensive). The W810i is great for music.

I have a ROKR E2. I have been very impressed with the ROKR. Its screen is beautiful and it really is loaded with a tonne of features and capabilities, and completely unique. When you are listening to music with the phone in your pocket the music keys are easy to work and the interface even shows album art, which is a bonus. Be aware that this is not the standard Moto interface. Its the new and far superior UI that is very moddable (being Linux based). The 3.5mm jack makes a big difference too.

Another great option is the Sony Ericsson W810i, although its screen is not as large nor as good, its camera is better. Both phones are good options, and neither will disappoint. Good luck in choosing.
