Hi there,
My last phone was a Sony Ericsson P800, and my current phone is a Sony Ericsson P910i. I bought both phones when they were prerelease, and have generally been happy with both. However, my P910i is getting a little dingy, and I know its no longer the hottest smartphone on the block. I've thought about the P990, but I want to look at other options too...
Generally these are my requirements:
-Has to have a buzz around it. I'm an early adopter and I only want the latest, greatest, newest phone.
-Has to look good. I dont want a phone that looks like a bar of soap or a graphing calculator.
-Has to be GSM. I won't be tied down to one carrier!
-Has to have a QWERTY keyboard. Handwritting recognition is nice too, but not required if the keyboard is decent.
-Third party apps available, so I guess that means a major cell phone OS.
-Has to comfortably fit in a front pocket. The MAX size I will accept is the size of the P910i. This is already huge.
-Decent messaging features, including POP3 and IMAP support, and MMS that actually works.
-High speed data. I'm sick of GPRS being so *** slow and flakey.
-Camera with video recording capabilities.
-Removable storage, or if not that, very good data link capabilities. USB would be nice.
-Decent call screening features.
This is what I have liked about the P910i:
-Hot Hot Hot. Well when I got it anyway.
-QWERTY keyboard.
-Messaging is OK. P910i works fine for email and texting.
-Removable storage is big, cheap, and readily available.
-Video camera.
-Can actually navigate an excel sheet if I have to.
-Third party apps easy to find for Symbian. Opera, PocketAIM, etc...
-It doesn't crash much.
This is what I have not liked about the P910i:
-It looks like a bar of soap. (At least its better than the P800 which looked like a fat shower tile... but still!)
-The keyboard is not backlit, so I can't use it at night while driving.
-Call screening functions suck. You can make access lists, but not deny lists. You can't block all calls from "Unknown", etc...
-If I have 2 or 3 apps open, it gets very slow.
-Camera quality sucks, and the lens isn't protected.
-MMS just never seems to work right.
-Low-speed data (GPRS).... Come on lets get some 3G!
-Data sync is retarded, both with the serial cable and with IrDA.
-I've lost at least 20 stylus.
So what do you phone gurus suggest?
