looking for a smartphone (minus) outlook

I'm looking for a smartphone option that I can use with a PC address book but NOT outlook.

since I'm normally mac based, I'm not that versed in PC but since Palm desktop is dying off - is there a address and calendar program out there that will work?

and a smartphone that will sync with it?

thanks

Outlook is the de facto standard, but there are a lot of smartphones today which can sync to the cloud (aka Google Calendar) and any open calendar format.

iPhone - syncs to iCal on Mac and iTunes on PC, don't know if it needs Outlook to do contact management or can it do contact management itself.
Pre/Pixi - syncs to Google, Facebook and Yahoo
Windows Mobile - syncs to Google Calendar with Activesync Push, doesn't sync to Windows Mail in Vista IIRC, don't know about Live Mail in W7.
Android - syncs to Google or if you buy an HTC phone, syncs to an HTC app on the desktop.

Those are your options, if I've missed any let me know.

not fond of the google syncing.

we tried googlesync from companionlink and apparently the contacts in google are by first name.

We currently are trying out the HTC tilt2 with windows mobile - not fond of windows mobile

hopefully Mr. Palm is losing sleep tonight for moving away from tried and true palm desktop

does the app work on Windows mobile HTCs?

You can also sync to hotmail on Windows Mobile. You just need to use the Windows Live app on the phone and upload your contacts from your PC. You can also configure it for immediate (as it arrives) delivery. This is generally called push.

I don't believe so, since every WM phone is built to sync with WMDC. Maybe in the future, the WM and Windows teams will talk to each other to enable things like Device Stage in Windows 7.
