Looking for a new phone (cingular)

I have had a Samsung D807 since its launch, but now, it seems like everyone is getting one...its turning into the next razr lol.

Anyway, I will ebay this phone (for about $150 hopefully). I renew my service contract in January, so if I don't find a phone I like from Cingular, I will buy the BlackJack from them (for $150) and then ebay it for about $300 (hopefully).

So I have about $300-$350 for a phone...Im looking for something compatible with Cingular, it has to look sleek/sexy, 1MP+ camera, mp3s, etc

any suggestions? Also, will Cingular be releasing new phones for the new year?

btw, im looking into the nokia 8801 and sonyericsson k790...is that any good?

Whilst I don't have a K790, I do have a K800, which is very similar. I can very much recommend the K800 (or the K790 in your case). It has an excellent camera, 3.2 MP, with a real Xenon flash. The handset is well built, and feels solid in the hand. It's a good all round handset if you aren't bothered about having a smartphone.

Unfortunately you are somewhat constrained if you want a European handset because not all of them are quad-band. However, perhaps you could take a look at www.carphonewarehouse.com, and see what they have available. You may spot a nice quad-band handset you hadn't seen before.

It doesnt have to be a Euro headset, im just looking for something unique, since it seems that my d807 has gone out of style

Also, does 3G also boost reception quality? or is it an internet thing only?
What is EDGE lol?

The UMTS in the K800 will only work in europe, because it doesn't have the proper bands for the US, so the k790 might be a better choice for the US

Watch out for Phones you get from Europe. They will most likely support UMTS 2100 when Cingular works on the UMTS 1900 band. Your UMTS 2100 phone will not function on the Cingular Network for 3g data. The New Nokia N95 is actually the first Nokia "Multimedia Computer" that will support Tri band UMTS and Quad band GSM. I am waiting for that to swith to the cingular network. The K series in General is a great phone series. Cameras on those phones kick the *** of the nokia cameras. The N93 got its *** kicked and it supports the "clearest" camera Nokia offers. Tri to wait for the N95, it should be launching sometime 2Q 2007. If you can't wait that long, then hold on to the BlackJack and sell it when the N95 hits the stores. And there is no confirmed news that Cingular will cary the N75. Its just a rumor. Happy Searching.

3G is the next generation of wireless standards that are replacing 2.5G wireless standards. In most of Europe, UMTS is the 3G standard used. Usually a 3G (or UMTS) handset will have support for both UMTS and GSM. The handset will try to lock onto the strongest signal, whether it be UMTS or GSM (unless UMTS is turned off), hence UMTS doesn't boost reception per se, although I suppose it does give one an extra means of obtaining a signal.

If I wanted to get something that works on Cingular and is a bit cheaper than N95 that works on the 3/3.5G network (unbranded), what would you recommend ?

Thanks
