Looking for a light terrain, good mtn bike for under $250, for a beginner. Won't be

used too often.? It is for my fiance. We would like to bike on some trails but nothing too rough as neither of us are experienced enough. He wants a mountain bike and I don't want to get him something that will fall apart after one ride. I know to get a really good bike will cost more than $250. I'm just looking for something to get him back into. If he decides this is something he wants to stick with or do a lot of, then we can look into a better bike. This is a starter to get him into the groove.
 
I got a great bike on eBay, a 2000 Specialized Rockhopper for less than $250 including shipping and it's served me extremely well on a dozen trips, well over 200 miles, in the last couple of months with only minor maintenance required. You can search eBay or craigslist for some good used bikes. Buying a new bike that costs under $250 would be a waste of money I think.
