Looking for a (invisible) back brace for lower back support.

I don't know about the back brace, but I've heard of inserts you can put in your shoe to correct the leg length difference.

Hello,

Last October I found out that I have degenerative disc disease which has so far caused 3 herniated discs in my lower back and bone spurs in my lower back and neck and currently causes a lot of strength loss in my left leg and arm.
7 years ago I've been operated on the first 2 herniated discs, which caused scartissue, but my back hasn't really improved. In the first 5 years it got a little better but the last 2 years I've only been going downhill which is why I went to the doctor last October. I'm uninsured by the way.
After getting 2 MRI scans (lower back & neck), she found out about the degenerative disc disease and I've been taking supplements for it ever since. I'm supposed to come back in October to decide whether I need a new operation.

I'm allergic to strong painkillers, regular ones don't work, and I life in pain every waking moment. To relieve a bit of the pain I started wearing a steelboned corset 1.5 years ago every time I have to go somewhere but I wear them out really quickly because my right leg is nearly a half a inch longer then my left. This also makes it hard to keep them in place properly. The same goes for the regular back braces. Having a hourglass shape doesn't help either since they never fit right. I've tried some supportive underwear but they're all to wide for my waist.

I'm currently looking for a good alternative, preferable one that cannot be seen underneath regular clothes, that at least gives me some extra support and stays where it's supposed to be.

I really hope that someone can help me because I can't find anything.

I've been to a podiatrist for that and had special ones made but I gave up on them after 7 months because they caused so much extra pain.

Where exactly do you need the support - LB or more in the SI area? If SI, a Trochantor belt is worn under your underwear right under the hip bone and cinches in that area.

Thank you for your reply. :)

I have the herniated disc in the L5-S1 area and the bone spurs and scar tissue in both the L4-L5 and L5-S1 areas, which is also where most of the pain is.

It looks like the trochanter belt targets the area just below the pain.

Amanda,

Lo and Behold! I was in a lingerie shop today and the woman noticed I was using a cane. Yada, Yada Yada, she suggested I try on a corsett that supports the back. I was reluctant but WOW am I ever glad I did! This is just a short corsett that wraps around the waist to the top of the hip and it is worn UNDER your clothing! I was almost in tears, truly. It supported my back even better than the big lurabar back brace that I will only wear around the house. It can't be seen at all through your clothing but provides unbelievable support so I can wear it out of the house. She said back surgeons in NYC often send clients there for this product. It is called Venus style 2030 if you want to try to find one in your area.

Best,

Jen

Amanda:

There are a bunch out there by various manufacturers - maybe visit a local medical supply company and see what they have and/or what they can order.

I'm sorry about that.
i only tried to get some feedback on something I was thinking about buying.
I looked for a option to just post a picture but that's not allowed either.

Do you happen to know what the chest, waist and hip width is since I life rural and have no good lingerie stores so I'd have to order it online.
My widths are 37 - 27 - 38 by the way.

I have 2 plastic boned corsets which I bought at Fredericks and those barely provide good support compared to my steel boned one but buying those steel boned ones is just getting to expensive since I need a new one every 4 months and they're $150+. The real good ones are $400+ but the closest corset store where I could really have one made to my exact measures is more then 4 hours away.
