(Even if you don't know about forensics, bear with me; if you know any serious plays or contemporary poetry, you could help)
I'm in high school forensics. I know different states have different names for categories. Here we have Solo Serious, which is what I'll be competing in this season as a main event. It's dramatic interp, but considered an acting category, so no book. It's characterized by very serious and intense pieces, usually with yelling/screaming. At my high school, we joke about how in Solo Serious, you need to yell and scream to win. That's an exaggeration, but it's what the majority of Solo Serious pieces are like. ANYWAY, I'm still looking for a piece. I've been thinking about an excerpt from "A Gaggle Of Saints" from "Bash" by Neil LaBute, but I'm not sure. It just doesn't seem right. So was wondering if anyone could recommend a piece. Last year I competed in Poetry, but most of the pieces in that category here don't seem like poetry. They're usually free verse and don't rhyme or anything, and mine seemed more like prose. I did "Strong" by David Levithan. It was a good piece, and I did really well with it, but I always felt like it wasn't intense enough for my taste. Our coach tells us about how great it can be to find the perfect forensics piece, and it didn't feel quite there. It was really deep and emotional, but I hardly got to raise my voice. I'd like something more intense. It doesn't need to be an existing forensics piece. If you don't know about forensics, alot of people take certain excerpts from plays or poems and put them together to make a piece. That's what I'd be doing if I chose to do "A Gaggle Of Saints". If you know of any plays or contemporary poems that are really serious like that, let me know.I digress. Suggestions? Thanks alot.
If you could attach a link to somewhere where I can read the piece, or at least part of it, or watch/listen to it, or if you could post it or part of it in your answer, that'd be great. Thanks.
