Looking at 10 year old cars, is Mazda a good option?

I've been driving a 1990 Toyota Corolla for the past 8 years and, despite that it still runs nearly perfectly, it's time to retire it and buy a new(er) car. I'm looking to get a car that is 8-10 years old and I originally started my search at just Toyota's and Honda's. I've been told by a notsuperreliable source that Mazda 626's are equal to Toyota and Honda in terms of their durability. I don't want my 20 year old Toyota to out-perform any new(er) car that I buy. Any advice?

I'd personally be careful with Mazda. In my experience with dealer auto auctions and all...most of them that come through the auction lines are either smoking or just ragged out. The newer one may be a different story, but if I were you I'd stick to what you're used to. There may be a reason you've never heard of the 626's being in the same category as the Toyota and Honda.
