As of June, it appears that it is 47% republican to 42% democrat.
Based on the state of our economy this is a GOOD thing. We need more fiscal conservatism and we need to look at ALL ways to avert future financial meltdowns. We absolutely need to cut spending across the board. Make EVERY program take a 1% cut (real cut, not projected) and live with it. Real businesses survive on a 1%+ budget cut all the time, and they manage to find a way to still do their jobs and provide their services. Once that is in order reform the tax code with lower rates and less loopholes (in my mind loopholes=government spending in a round about way).
All this proves is that we are close to equal in terms of nurabers of people's view on how to govern and that at any given time the pendulum will swing one way or the other depending on circumstances. If we strive to find common ground and *gasp* compromise the nation as a whole will be significantly better off and confidence in the USA will grow again. Until that day comes, however, I expect we will see the continued shit storm that we've been seeing for the past 10 years or so.
