Think about what those dead soldiers went through. He couldn't even stand out in a little lightning with an umbrella in his hands.

wait, "particularly the children". Excuse me, if I don't exactly understand the nature of lightning, but children, in general, are much shorter than adults, so why are we particularly concerned about the children. Guess no one cares if adults get struck by lightning.
 
then explain your 'opinion' of what was meant by that. Sounds like the good old "please somebody think of the children" bullshit.
 
Now it's "What an asshole, he couldn't stand out in some rain", and if the crowd had been struck by lightning it would be "What an asshole, how could he be so stupid as to have people stand in a field during a thunderstorm."
