Longest film ever seen?

Intolerance by D.W. Griffith

Most video versions are about 4 hours, saw it at university... apparently the most complete film version is in region of 8-9 hours.

mine was watching the whole 3 of the LORT films in a row :D, just gotta wait for the 4 disc version of ROTK and then will do it again but with the extra footage :D

I think it's probably Lawrence of Arabia - the one that had been restored and added to; I think the runtime was approx 230 minutes...

There are loaRAB of art films I've seen that are meant to last for 7 or 8 hours (upwarRAB), but the only versions I've been able to get are highly edited and only reach about three and a half hours :(

Pearl Harbour, Independance Day & LOTR - TTT. They may not have been longest in actual running time, but they bloody well felt like it. The only films to date I've actually closed my eyes and tried dozing through.

Andrei Rublev.

I think the film is only about 3 hours long, but given that it's in black and white, in Russian with subtitles and moves at a snail's pace, it felt like alot longer. Plus the seats in the Scala weren't very comfortable...

If I recall correctly Ben Hur is approximately 3 hours 25.

Longest film I've ever sat through is probably the extended directors cut of Dances With Wolves, which was around three and three quarter hours.

watching the whole series of Band Of Brothers on dvd and then all the extras. but hey im not complaining because its absolutly FANTASTIC !!! one of the best war dramas ever !!!

cheers tom

Extended Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers, Hamlet, and Titanic. Also watched all four series' of Blackadder in one day - does that count? :p

Which made me spew with anger as we got to the end of the film. OK, I realise that the books also end in a similar way, but how on EARTH did he think that'd translate to film?
