Long Story short.... I just need a little help on how to say this?

ok theres this riddle,( if u say my other question, its for xtra credit too) and long story shot, it starts with a pear tree
and ends with how many plums on the tree?
so would i say, none, there are pears
or do i say, i dont know because it was about pears?
which one?
answers appreciated!
 
it´s the riddle with the farmer. the answer is there will be no plums only pears.
