Lord of the Rings, The Last Samari, Magnolia, and many more. Since films have become the trend, more and more idiots enter the cinema looking for short and shallow laughs. Today while watching The Last Samari people were that bored they were walking in and out of the cinema, talking and constantly trying to laugh. I hope that films become geek past time again. Long films offer the depth needed for the real film fan.
 
pick your showings - certain times of day are just the wrong time to be going if you don't want the interuptions.
 
Unfortunately cinema going is fast going out of fashion for me. The prints we get at the UCI and the UCG that are local to me are scratched and the soundtrack awful. Then we have the neanderthals who either talk all the way through it, are on their mobile or showing their best mate just how good their mobilephone/pda is by capturing what's on screen and showing it to them on a screen far brighter than the projected image itself. I'll stick to DVD's- better sound and picture, no interruptions and in the case of 'A Mighty Wind' out in cinemas today in the UK, I'll popping it into the player again for the 4th time since buying it in November and having a damn good time watching it- without any distractions!
 
Go to the right cinema, and go to the right screening.

I went to a midnight screening last night. 7 people in there. 3 of them in my entourage...

It was silent all the way through.
 
I think ,that if you go to see a certain type of movie sadly you have to expect interupptions.
Eg.
scary movie 3,anytime expect whipsering ,wrustly popcorn noises etc.
But
if you go to a film like girl with a pearl earring, i think it would be quiet anytime
 
Sorry but dont even think that id watch a film like scary movie 3 those things shouldnt even be called films. In the the film The Last Samuai I shoulnt even have heard a pin drop. Where's the intrest in film's today oh and this was a late night film I watched.
 
People now are used to big fight scenes and CGI effects. In a way LOTR is partly to blame, as everyone expects that every film should have this level of action and effects, and If a film is as long as LOTR but without this staple requirement, then people get bored.
 
being a lover of indian cinema,i expect films to be 2 and a half to 4 hours long,if feels dont make it to 2 hour mark i feel cheated,unless its a comedy
 
Not all people, surely? There must be somebody out there with a modicum of intelligence and taste. By the way, all this complaining about inconsiderate behaviour in the local multiplex surprises me. There are five multi-screen cinemas within easy reach of my house and I have never encountered such attitudes in any of them - unless you go to the kiddies' matinees, of course, in which case you deserve the ice cream down the back of your neck.
 
Actually, I think the quietest movie I have ever seen, was The Return Of The King, which I managed to see on the Wednesday of its release, and the first showing at 9.50, literally 10 minutes worth of aRAB and trailers, and straight into the movie.

I was there with a friend and we were shocked at the fact that the whole place was packed to the brim, (we managed to pick up the top middle seats, thanx to advance booking) and that not one single word was uttered till the end, even the whole multi ending thing made the audience gasp as every scene faded out, hoping we would get to see the Christopher Lee scenes. I think that we may have been the only ones to spea throughout the whole movie and that was just the sheer disbelief that the advertisments were so brief.

My first showing of The Last Samurai was like that as well, but I managed to get a spoiling of my second showing by a group of kiRAB who moved from the left hand side of the cinema to the right hand side, until they were told off by a man who said that he was trying to enjoy the movie.

Good thread and I agree, one can't beat a decent epic. I viewed one of my favourites for the upteenth time last weekend (albeit on DVD), 'Once Upon A Time In America' - classic Sergio Leone and just under 4 hours worth. They rarely make them like that, these days!
