Painkiller, Stay hydrated, wear some good bike shorts (wicking underwear) with no seams... like under armor. Stop for gas every couple of hours and get the blood flowing (walk around).

Don't know what bike your riding but on my geezerglide, I went to the Zepher seat from HD. Can make pressure point adjustments on the fly. Looks ok on my bike but on RKC might be a bit much.
As far as stops, 1 to 1/2 hrs. will need fuel and comfort stop by then.
We can make 500 mi. easy that way.

OK this will Help LOADS. I do this on my sport bike. Goto Bicycle Store Get yourself some padded ass Bicycle shorts and wear them under jeans. Works wonders. Also keeps monkey but off your back. Relax on a long ride do not grit teeth.. Take I pod with CCR on it. When I am in a hurry on the bike for distance I put sodas in my saddle bags with assorted snacks. Dont have to go in the store. I stop only at gas stops with more than 3 gas stations. I never stop within 25 miles of a major town. (too many people) Figure how many miles you can go on a tank before you leave. Do not stop or think of stoping with less than 50 miles of runtime remaining. Unless you are out west. Bike shorts work.. Try it out and see.
Hope this helps,

I have done that ride from Killeen to Big bend. NICE RIDE. There are some top end roads therefor sure..Just dont do it in JUNE!!!

+1 for the sheepskin cover, ordered me one for a bucket car seat off of Amazon.com then cut it to fit like I wanted, had enough to make one for the rear seat too. You can see the grey skin on my seat in my sig pic.

Go buy a pair of BodyArmor bike type shorts, mine came from Academy Sports, not BodyArmor name brand and 1/2 the price. This keeps the chaffing way down from repossitioning in the saddle and from vibration.

Also the GoldBond or MonkeyButt too. With this setup you can do 700mi. a day with no problems.

This is from expierence.

It only comes with experience and "SEAT TIME". After buying my SG last spring ( my 4th Harley) I would go out every weekend and go farther than the last. I started out at around 500 then went 650 the next weekend I went 750. Now this is on a Brawler solo seat, which is less than 2" thick and a 2" tall windshield!

In September I did a Iron Butt 1000 in 15 hours. If you stop often you will get sore, and each time you stop it will get worse until your used to the miles. On the Iron Butt there was 9 gas stops and 1 nice officer thought I needed to stop for about 20 minutes, of those Ionly got off the biketwice. Gas and Go!

If your gonna go for the Iron Butt, get a tank bag so you can keep some food and water or gatoraid close without having to stop. A couple sandwiches, some beef jerky, a couple power bars go along way.

Make sure you adjust your bars and levers to be as comfortable as possible also. They ma be OK now but try some different positions to see if another one is better.

Ride safe and dont push it, make sure you've got enough tunes to keep you from getting bored also!

This

Find a place for your wallet other than you back pockets...wear pants that do not have high standing pocket seams in the buttock area.

And one more inexpressive thing but do not tell your friends I repeat do not tell your friends...do not wear any underwear...it works...don't ask me howI know...

Not sure if your normal awake hrs are day or nite. What worked for me to help the want to fall asleep thing and the easiest as far as concentration was..............I started my run just before dark with plenty of rest. You are at your sharpest when your not tired and nite riding is harder on me than day time. Who wants to fight on coming traffic at nite when you're beat?.......So start off the trip with the hard part out of the way. When day fall comes it will be easier to finish it off. Besides.....you can enjoy the sights now and the tired will go away as your looking around seeing new stuff................ask me how I know............

Done a few 1000+ mile days and 2 1500 mile days and the best advice I can give is ... Get a Mustang seat. You would not believe the difference between HD seats and a Mustang. I went thru 3 HD seats and they almost killed my desire to ride. I spent $325 on my Mustang and I will never go back. The wife loves it also. JMHO
