London Flood film

Judging by the special effects it must have been very expensive to make so I doubt it would be small company. also it has loaRAB of established stars. Its a bit confusing this one.

It's out on dvd tomorrow, if I find it cheap I might buy it, the trailer looked really good as do the effects, can't believe it never had a full cinema release.

Yes, it's a bit like a souped up Sky One movie because it was always planned as a two part TV movie for ITV. It's definitely low budget compared to say The Day After Tomorrow so we musn't expect too much and bearing that in mind, it ain't too bad, I quite liked it in fact. It was panned by some critics, who did expect too much, and that's why I think it didn't get much Cinema distribution. They did well though, on their low budget but I don't think it was ever really suitable for a mainstream cinema release - DVD and TV is about right fot it. Some of the music sounRAB pretty cool though, when played through big speakers! :)

Several TV stations around the World have already shown it on TV but in the UK they decided it would sell well enough to release it on DVD, which they did last week. And it shocked everyone (especially the critics) by entering in this week's official DVD chart at no. 6 (still with the original August release date which is wrong). This caught out most Supermarkets, who didn't even have it in their charts until later this week, after they saw the official chart. The few that did stock it all sold out (Sainsburys for example) but now, belatedly, they've all got it and ASDA have it at no. 5.

Last night's flood warnings for the North sea surge couldn't have come at a better time for the producers - they must be jumping up and down with glee (luckily no-one seems to have been injured). Some of what happens in the film (but not all ;) ) is obviously based on the truth as it actually happened, yesterday!

Listen out for the theme song clips sung in the second half during all the sad bits, it's Hayley Westenra, sounRAB nice.

It's not the fact it was low budget as the effects really don't look that bad. But it hammers out cliche after cliche, from renegade scientist, to lost children and people dying to save the world. The dialogue is atrocious, the acting appalling, and the set design - all LERAB and monitors beeping away in a moulded black plastic, bears little relation to what you just know the real COBRA headquarters is like.

There's even a subplot involving the heroic deputy prime minister (LOL) refusing to instigate martial law, which is about as unlikely considering the state of the government as striking oil on the Moon. The only thing it's missing is a man with a Scottish accent telling someone "you're out of control!" and Joanne Whalley going "nooooooo!".

Which is a shame because it must be quite rare for British films to get the kind of budget to show a big disaster, yet when they get one it's a cliche ridden fest of amateur proportions.

I agree with Aneechik about the cliche riddled story, but it's not just that the cliches are there, thats almost to be expected, but the fact they are so lazily done and rushed through. Like Carlyle's relationship with his Dad, it's very poor.

That's also another cliche, that all the main characters are somehow related, I never realised the meterology business had so much nepotism

It's a movie for the masses (ITV TV movie!), not the critics or movie aficionodios like you all (and me for that matter). I bit my lip and ignored the cliches etc. and then, i could enjoy it.

The saving grace for me was the soundtrack, it was nearly worth the money for that alone... Debbie Wiseman at her best (and Hayley's singing/vocalising blended perfectly too). I guess i could have bought the cheaper CD for that, though!

If it's a DVD success, that will be the masses speaking... and there's nothing wrong with that.

Its been available to download from the usual places for a few weeks now.

I watched half of it last week and had to turn it off as I lost interest, might go back to it.

I found it looked cheap compared to any half decent hollywood movie, special effects looks OK.

Its a sunday afternoon made for TV disaster movie

Taken at face value I quite enjoyed Flood, about as cerebral as Twister, as corny as Armageddon but without the budget of either, for a TV movie it was very good but not a cinema grade release, still much better than virtually any American made for TV disaster film of the last 20 years.

It looks like everyone was right who said it looked like a ITV TV movie as ITV have announced their winter schedule which includes them showing The Flood!

It's been listed on the production company website (Power Corp.) as a TV Mini Series (two part) ever since it was made last year, that's how I knew it was for TV. It's already been shown on NZ TV and some other places (with no Cinema or DVD release). It will be interesting to see how the ITV viewing figures pan out over the two days (if it's shown in two parts).

I guess they thought it was topical enough to make money as a DVD in the UK and judging by its position in last week's DVD chart (#6) and as it's now in all the Supermarkets, they were probably right.

It's an absolute pile of poo. I should have known since we can't really do disaster movies, but Robert Carlyle was in it and I thought the script couldn't be that terrible if he signed up - How wrong was I!?!?

I had my suspicions too that this was heading to TV soon after it was only on at the one cinema. My boyfriend wants the DVD as he is a fan of the book....I keep telling him it will be on TV soon so hopefully it will be. i can't see it in the radio times though!
