I got my Bill for October/November last week.

For thanksgiving weekend I was in Sault Ste Marie, I was close to the great lakes visiting a friend and at his place you are just across the water from the USA. So I guess my 8100 picked up the GSM signal from Cingular ( I think).

I didn't make any calls, but I did turn on Jivetalk for about 2minutes. For that 2min I got hit with 14k of data and a charge of $0.70. thank God I didn't use MAPS, or WWW.

Rogers did refund me because they took my word I was still in canada, but HOOOOLLY.

That is normal. Go into your Options -> Mobile Network and set your Network Selection Mode to Manual.

That will ensure you don't get on US carriers while cruising the border towns.

I have pearl 8100 with US AT&T. i dont have netwrok selection option under Options -> Mobile Network
i have only data services with 3 options 1) on 2) Off 3) off when roaming
and Mobile network AT&T without any choice.

how to turn off automatic selection with pearl 8100 & US AT&T?

Thanks vinod_patil! I've always wondered about how to make screen shots on my BlackBerry. Googled up the instructions.. Anyway.

That is what I see in there. I select Manual and it shows me available networks. I change it to Rogers and click on it. Then click the Select Network from the menu. Then click ok.

Now my BlackBerry is on Manual mode for Rogers.

What BlackBerry plan are you on? When I was on Rogers data roaming in the USA was 1 cent per KB. From my understanding data roaming in the USA for Rogers customers is 1 cent per KB on the BlackBerry data plans that are $25-100 per month and on the $15 BlackBerry add on it's 5 cents per KB.

Because you don't get data. Jivetalk uses data as BlackBerry Messenger uses the 15 dollar email PIN plan. But that is a different issue. I'm not going there.
