Logas Run blu ray.

Watched the R1 blu ray release a few days back.

Yes, it's creaky old sci-fi stuff I know, but there is something appealing about it.

I always remember the opening shot of the cityscape, with little attempt to give any sense of scale and looking every inch a studio model. But yet it reminded me of pictures I used to stare at in library books way back in the sixties when I was a kid, pictures of imagined futuristic citiscapes, and indeed similar working models built by people who seriously believed that is how we would be living in the sixties.

And it's a faintly silly story, about humans living underground and believing that they will be 'renewed' when they reach 30, when in reality they are secretly killed off to keep the population down.

It's churlish to single out the dated effects and model work, this was after all 1976. It also appears to have been filmed in a shopping mall, but then back in '76 they were not yet commonplace.

But the good news is that it is a very good transfer - apart from some of the optical effects work, the picture is very good, and the bright, gaudy colours of the future-world look great. The sound is also very good, great use of the surrounRAB, and the soundtrack also bounces around the speakers as well.

Oh...and it's got a young Jenny Agutter. 'Nuff said.

Ahhh Logans Run, what a treat from my childhood, I was totally fascinated with this film as a child, and mainly for the reasons you have said, the backdrops of a future city, that do indeed look like book illustrations, and I still love all that today, cause I really appreciate seeing how they were made and all the work from talented artists that go into productions like this, I like to see matte lines, studio backdrops and all of that, wonderful stuff. Peter Ustinov as I remember was good in this, I've not seen it for a good few years. But I do remember being unhappy with the ending, seemed a bit religious, but as I said it was a while ago. I also loved the TV show as a nipper. Glad to hear it got a good treatment on bluray, good job too.

Jenny Agutter in glorious BluRay HD...

This might be the next addition to my smalll collection. I'm sure this and Close Encounters will be great, once I get a player and a half decent telly. :D

I think you mean the Region A Bluray .
Region 1 is a dvd coding , but I was assuming Logans Run was a Bluray from Warner so it will be region free anyway.

I ordered it ages ago and Playusa have not even posted it yet- where did you get yours?

I have a soft spot for this film too . The use of real sets and mostly on set special effects blows away the CGI rubbish we get today .

Most of the older CGI already looks more dated than Logans Run and it always looks as artificial as it is.

I recorded the Logans Run tv series to dvd from the Sci- Fi Channel and even with all the reused footage it was very average

Well said.

I haven't seen this since it was first shown, I'd love to see it again, but I'm sure it won't be like I remember it, never is. Except the Planet of the Apes tv show, still as brilliant now as when I enjoyed it as a kid.

The Run was on Channel 4 on Friday, but they showed it in the afternoon! Honestly, what's the point in that? You have to cut out the best bits.

It's like when Five show Walkabout in a similar slot.

The movie is a travesty of the book.
Apart from Jenny Agutter's kitoffery, it's dire. Ustinov is embarrassing, the models look just like models, the shopping mall looks like a shopping mall and the ending is idiotic.
The presence of not one but two, Michael Andersons should be a warning to the curious.

I love this cheesy old hackjob.... It shows every single day of it's age... Ironic when you consider that despite raising the termination age from the original story to accomodate it's stars, they were all far to old to be in it (well maybe not Jenny and Farrah).

The movie maybe shouldn't be compared to the book, it bares no relation! I love the movie. It's cheesy, the city effects are awful but there's just something about it. The bluray soundtrack is fantastic, I love the electronic sounRAB for the city. The picture looks okay but the special effects shots can be a bit grainy. The 'happy' ending makes me laugh. So are they all heading to starvation, toil and death from exposure? :D

The only bit that could merit a daytime edit would be the brief bit of nudity from Jenny Agutter.
But it would not surprise me if C4 left it in although as its half term I expect not.

Looks like the Logans Run Bluray may take as long to surface in the UK as the dvd did

I like the film but history was unkind to it from day one when it very quickly got forgotten when Star Wars came out the following year.
