Location ID

Ahh, but then true to form the left hand still doesn't know what the right hand is doing.

2-party and 4-party Bell phone services still exist - typically in areas where only BTV and SC are the only option.

One part of the ogre prohibits me from connecting any device other than my tethered, rented rotary dial phone while the other penalizes me for failing to abide by the rules of their partner in crime :D

It boggles my mind that this is still being disccused.

There are no problems with verifying your Location ID with Bell through ANY phone that you have available. Wired, wireless, VOIP, cell, walkie-talkies, 2-cans-and-a-string, smoke signals,......

The phone line doesn't have to be one of yours.

If you can provide them with the information, they will accept it. End of story.

True. Give them the correct Location ID(s) and they'll go away.

My reference to party lines was to rebut Ex Agent EV's assertions and to affirm than 'any' phone will do.

That tied in nicely with Pinza's speculation whereby some customers would be unfairly penalized as a result of Bells own tariff restrictions. Ergo, damned if you do, damned if you don't and no other option but to bend over and take it.

As I said in the past I used to work in the SAT departement so I know how they work and their rules...

It is possible to do the verification with a corded phone but it is way more complicated and a lot of exercise for the suscriber...he has to go get the location ID from one receiver, come give it to the agent, go get it on the second machine, and so on. The agent can not accept that the suscriber goes to get all the location ID and comes to give it to him. Also the location ID changes every 10 minutes. The agent could only eneter one location ID number at the time and the programm they use is not the fastest, so it could take a few seconds before he gets a confimation of being given the correct number. If the suscriber has many units it is more than likely that by the time the agent will try to verify the last receiver the location ID will be changed in the machine, showing that a wrong code was given. That unit will automatically be deactivated and won't be able to be reactivated for a 24 hours period. When the suscriber will call back, 24 hours later he would have to go, again throught all the receivers to be able to restart the deactivated one
