Living off the dead!

No one is original, we learn music from listening to it. We reproduce what we hear. But we are supposed to use our own artistic abilities to define our own music. We kind of corabine many different sounRAB together to make our own. But we keep a particular sound that is always present.

I'd be happy if pink just used a bit of Nirvanas music but used her own artistic tools to make her own unique version. Otherwise she should give them credit. I wander if Dave Grohl ever picks it up...

OK check this out. Nirvanas song 'come as you are' sounRAB like a corabination of killing jokes "riff" from 'eighties' and pixies tempo or rythm in their song 'here comes your man'. What do you think?

The difference is that the guys in Nirvana were fans of Killing Joke and they definitely knew the song. That's not to say I think they deliberately ripped it off, sometimes you think you just came up with something cool but it's actually that you just figured out how to play a song you already know without realizing it.

*re-checks*

Yep. I got bored with the self-titled halfway through. There was nothing at the end to even keep me interested. At least Night Time had good songs which carried all the way through it.

Guess I'll try listening to their other works, see if my opinion changes. :)

agreed.

anything you'd consider as intelligent really doesn't mean shit to me, especially since you think the smashing pumpkins are the best band to come out of Chicago.

One of the best CD's i've ever owned is a free CD that came with the NME with some of his influences on. Anyone who knows my taste well will see just how much this influenced me...

1. Mudhoney - Touch Me I'm Sick
2. Rites Of Spring - For Want Of
3. The Faith - Subject to Change
4. Iggy Pop - Louie Louie/Hang On Sloopy
5. Melvins - Gluey Porch Treatments
6. Butthole Surfers - Sweat Loaf
7. MDC - John Wayne Was a Nazi
8. Gang Of Four - At Home He's a Tourist
9. The Slits - Typical Girls
10. PJ Harvey - Dress
11. The Vaselines - Molly's Lips
12. Leadbelly - Where Did You Sleep Last Night?
13. Bad Brains - Banned In D.C

Actually typing this i've realised i still haven't got any bloody Vaselines stuff.

For as good a producer Steve Albini is, Big Black may be the most horribly produced act to earn critical recognition. I don't hate them. I just happen to concur with Urban: they're overrated.

I argue this a lot but the more music I listen to, and the more music technology improves, the more I realize what a hell of a lot of original ways there are to do the same thing.
