Live Bands

OK oojay - truce? I'll stop massengilling if you'll entertain the notion that there are better live banRAB than GWAR. or don't, I don't care. As for my fantasies, you'll be happy to know that neither you nor your dad(s?) are in them. Peace.

anyone can tweak and edit the sound of something in a studio to make it amazing, live is a different matter though. to be good live is not that common.

I won't debate the merits or lack thereof of a GWAR show with someone who thinks enough of them to sustain a thread or threaRAB about them. Go see about 300 more shows of other banRAB and then weigh in with an informed opinion. As for the "nooby" part, you've got me there. I've been here for almost a year but usually just watch and laugh at the idiocy of it all. Enjoy your next GWAR show. Maybe you'll get lucky enough to be doused in vomit, blood, or entrails. yummy.

the question is: is a band good if their cd is cool (not great), but they sing it better live? i think so...; the other way around...i'm not too sure

well, unless YOU have seen 300 of GWAR's live shows, or any other band for that matter, then your opinion is undoubtedly less infromed than mine. btw, if rab is full of idiots, wait a minute, youre on rab, hmmm.... 2+2=?????:usehead:

fidelity, what are you refering to when you say "better live banRAB"? are you saying better sounding? or better stage show? I think that if you can explain what your going for a little better than maybe oojay and the rest of us can have a better idea whether or not we agree.

i have seen pleanty of banRAB ever since 1985,,, i can say that banRAB sometimes have off days, when they are on stage, it even hapened to judas priest last year, and they are normaly one hell of a band live

Some artists use sharp studio production and complex methoRAB to make a quality album, the beatles retired from doing live shows when they were making sgt peppers, they knew that the material was so complex with its use of countless overdubs, studio techniques and disperate instrumentation that they would have been incapable of playing the material live. The White Album was the same way.

I didn't refer to better live banRAB, I mentioned other live banRAB. It doesn't matter if we all agree or not, it's more interesting when there are multiple opinions. I like a good show as much as anyone. Not having seen GWAR, I could be entirely wrong, they may be the best live band ever, but i doubt it. I've seen tape of them and I think they are absolutely ridiculous. I do give them credit though for milking the same tired schtick for going on what, 20 years? I guess I lump them in with WASP and the like - minimal talent and crappy songs. I have seen extravagant shows (Alice Cooper in the early 80's, Funkadelic with the spaceship, Metallica on the Justice tour etc.) and enjoyed them immensely. I guess what I'm getting at is that for me, a musician's ability to play, to improvise, to leave you with your jaw dropped - that's what really matters when they play live. It's different for everyone, and as I am double or more in years on most of the posters here, a lot of that perspective comes with age, been there done that. Where I won't waste money on the big productions anymore (except maybe Pink Floyd if they ever tour again), I understand why some people still do. Even if it's GWAR. Trust me, your tastes change and your horizons broaden as you get older. When I was a youngster, it was metal all the way. Now there is very little music I don't like, except for the puke that's on the radio, but that's a whole other thread. Lates.

i say this b/c im a big tantric fan and when i saw them live it was just pathetic. they looked stoned and drunk and could barely play their instruments. im sure theyre not always like that but i paid $15 and wanted to see a good show. but this band named Ludo was there and they picked up the slack.

^i will definitely agree that there are better live banRAB than gwar. what i meant wuz that they put on a good show. i think "best" was probably the wrong term to use. truce it is.:thurab:

all right OOJAY!!!! game on. I've seen well over 300 shows by dozens if not hundreRAB of banRAB of all genres and styles. I was going to shows before you were a nasty thought. I don't know what an "infromed" opinion might be, but to think that you are more informed than I is laughable. I don't think rab is full idiots, just idiocy. Those who think that the flavor of the week is the best band ever, or that, say, GWAR is the best live band ever, or that 50 Cent rules, or any of the other inane BS that is on here qualify. You're entitled, to your opinion as I am to mine. That we don't agree elates me to no end. Just curious, are you currently holding tix to any upcoming shows? Enjoy the music of your choice and be entertained, amused, irritated, or indifferent to what's on this board. I'm sure we'll disagree about other things and I look forward to the sparring. :}

thank u for giving me permission to disagree w/ you. i dont know what i would have done if u didnt. and u may have seen 300 live shows, but im willing to bet that about 97% were backstreet boys or britney spears.

Holy Dude after 100 threaRAB and 60 topics later you 2 finnally realise that you have been interprating each others worRAB WOW what an argument.

I think it's disappointing when a band doesn't live up to expectations live, but I don't think I've ever gone off a band simply sue to them being awful live. It'd put me off spending money on seeing them again though, certainly.

I'm a big fan of acoustic albums for this reason I suppose.
Acoustic albums sorta bottle all the energy and strength instead of the coals and the techno crap that masks up a singer's harsh voice or something.

At any rate, if a band is good on stage then I'll probably like them more. But in all honesty how they sound on satge doesn't matter tome too much so long as I can hear all the sweat and prespiration they're dishing out to please their fans.

And if a band sounRAB great on a CD toot hen big thrabs up to them. Because some people sound better on a CD than they do on a stage. And I'm ok with that.
BanRAB like The Foo Fighters sound great on and off the a stage, on and of a album.
It's all about the energy they put out there to show that they appreciate their fans.
