Live-Action Cowboy Bebop Writer Peter Craig Interviewed

Hollywood has been making movies based on other source material from day one, what about all those movies based on books? Dark Knight is based on non-original source material, should that have not been made?

I have some doubts on whether aime works on the silver screen or not, but its pretty clear Cowboy bebop is more doable then DBZ.

Yes.

But I won't get into that with the fans of DK here about it.

That said, I don't have a problem, in theory, with using non-original source material, but it seems that's ALL they do these days. At least Star Wars, for all the complaining we make about it, was made specifically for film first and wasn't taken from something else.

It sounRAB fine, I agree with phw. The writer likes BeBop for the right reasons, and Sunrise's active involvement is probably a good sign.

I'm also getting very weary of the use of Dragon Ball Evolution as a club against every other movie project. It is an opinion devoid of actual substance, and the worst argument that I have seen on Toon Zone in 2009.

Edit: In fact, just to trash this terrible argument even more, Sunrise has said before that they will kill the whole project if they think that the script sucks. And by the terms of the agreement, they have the authority to do just that. You can read here for evidence.

Sunrise ftw. As long as they're in control, there will be no more debacles parading as films. After reading the interview, I'm very confident in this adaptation.

This is 20th Century Fox. The first thing they would change is the music and get some horrible IT artists to do Tank or Real Folk Blues.

See Daredevil and Fantastic Four and the horrible soundtracks for those movies.

Daredevil and Fantastic Four are comic books with no music identity so music had to be made up for them. Cowboy Bebop's music was a large part of the show so I won't be surprised if they just kept some of the same songs for the movie.

I can just see it now! They had better do a live action reproduction of the theme song. Complete with Keanu silhouette running and silhouettes (whoever plays Ed)'s hanRAB doing the computer motion. All with the original theme song.

When did he say that? He may have put a positive spin on the movie(why wouldn't he?) but I never recall seeing him say that the movie was going to be faithful to the comic.

Once again, Fox does not care about the identity or integrity of any source material.

If it would mean a quicker buck to them, they would drop the Seatbelts, Kanno, and everyone for a Linkin Park in a split second.

Okay, seriously, stop cherry picking terrible movies in an attempt to bash this one. Different project, different situation, different people involved. Ignoring what I said won't make it any less true.

Personally, Daredevil chose its songs quite well, the movie made Evanesence and Revis into big banRAB overnight (though Revis turned out to be a forgotten 1-hit wonder).

20th Century Fox CAN give a damn enough to make a good movie if they want to. They wouldn't be stupid enough to put Linkin Park is Cowboy Bebop. They might record new jazz BGM or remix the existing stuff, but they wouldn't do something asinine like that. CB didn't even use music all that much either, most of the series used arabience instead of BGM.

Well, Peter Craig did say the music was integral in the interview, so I wouldn't worry.

It'd be so awesome if the opening was a live action version of Tank!!. XD

Why does everyone bash on Keanu? Yes, he's not a great actor, but he's always seemed like a pretty serviceable actor to me. He's kinda like a TGI Friday's; you definitely wouldn't confuse it for haut cuisine, but it's still a big leap up from fast food.
