Little Miss Sunshine & Persepolis on C4 Tonight

Two great films on C4 tonight.

Little Miss Sunshine has to be one of the best comedies I've seen in years. The end scene has me crying with laughter everytime I see it.

Persepolis is another great film based on the graphic novels of Marjane Satrapi. Whilst it does tend to drift into Forest Gump territory, it's still a remarkable film and the animation is jaw dropping.

LMS is a good film, but i cant watch films on commercial channels, the ad breaks end up really bugging me, & i lose interest.
Itll be online somewhere anyway.

Haven't seen either. Probablies watch Little Miss Sunshine, heard good things about it.

Not sure on Persepolis, doesn't really interest me.

The Machinist is quite a good film, well worth watching.

Yep, you can pick up LMS for peanuts these days (

I will do if you like. :)

The film (unlike the graphic novels) tenRAB to focus more upon the historic transformation of Iran through the eyes of the protagonist, much in the same way US History was presented through the Forest Gump narrative.
Whilst extremely informative and lending to a generally more interesting 'plot', I personally prefer the her strips which focus more on personal identity issues rather than history lessons and history lessons through works of fiction generally have to be taken with a pinch of salt, but it's still a great film none the less.

Hope that answers your question.

It doesn't.

I watched this film before, it was just a down to earth view of life in Iran, and the politcal problems and restrictions there from a womans viewpoint.

There were comparisons with life in the west, that anyone could relate to,with some dry humour. Some of it was deadly serious though.

Nothing like forest gump at all.

It was a strong film, and obviously memorable.

The animation in persepolis has now been bettered i believe by "waltz with bashir".

A much more serious film about lebanon.

You must have missed my post where I discuss the similarities between Persepolis and Forest Gump (it's just above your post).

I haven't seen Waltz With Bashir yet, though I saw the trailer a while ago and it does look pretty amazing. But the thing that held Persepolis together for me was that fact that it had it's lighter moments (and this refers more to her original comic strips).

Your opinion is a bit too surreal for me,i don't see the connection, even after reading your viewpoint.

And yes i have watched the comedy that was Forest gump, persepolis is not a comedy. It's political drama.

Unfortunately it came into mine but that was because I was pretty familiar with her work before the film. That 'Great History of..' story stuck out like a sore thumb. Saying that, without taking that angle I guess it would be pretty difficult to translate her work to the big screen. The film pulls it off but like I said before, I do tend to take history films with a pinch of salt.

You can count me amongst those few too!! I found it twee, irritating and so desperate to be quirky and funny it was almost formulaic... Even the wonderful cast didn't save it for me..

Haven't seen Persepolis either but very much looking forward to it - am sky plussing as we speak:D

Thanks OP for the reminder..;)
