little help

Hi I am new to this forum, but I need some help I have had a yamaha r6, honda cbr600rr and a cbr1000rr. I am coming up on a good chunk of money and want a ducati 848 so bad. I have been searching around doing some homework on it and all I hear is how many mods you have to buy and the seat sucks, it cooks your ass, all this bad stuff but it is my dream to own a ducati, so I am kinda blowing it off. I was wondering if anyone else has went from japs to a ducati. Please tell me all the pros and cons and what mods are most important. Thank you
 
Only mod what you want, sweet ride the way it comes, little warm on the buns but ways to mitigate it. Listen to the calling and get off the fence, went from HD to Ducati never turning back.
 
Went from a CBR600RR race bike to a 1098S... it's a italian high performance race bike and it's amazing. These machines aren't bullet proof - but neither was my 600RR - I had the first gen that had electrical problems that left me trying charging the battery after each session on the track not to mention a few times stranded on the road. If you have the extra cash during these lean times come join the club...
 
You don't have to mod anything. As far as the stock seat it is a matter of personal preference. It does get warm but its not uncomfortably hot. All you really need to do is get some reflective heat wrap and put it on the bottom of the seat. Get your dream bike if thats what you really want.
 
Alot of these complaints are basically from people who generally complain so you know how tough they are. This year I rode from San Clemente to Monterey for the MotoGp, the long way. We were basically 12 hrs in the saddle stopping every 100 miles or so for gas, I had no complaints about the seat. I have no complaints about the ergos I'm 5'9" and 160.
The last jap bike I had was a VF1000R so my comparison is pretty dated. The bike can get warm under very warm conditions. People claim it's the exhaust but I think it's really the rear cylindar and head that you feel. People will tell you if you get an exhaust it will help. For the most part that's bunk. I have an Arrow full system with Ti cans. At any time you can touch those cans with out being burned, the rear head still will get hot under very warm ambient conditions.
 
The seat doesnt really get hot unless your sitting in traffic. I have never had a issue of being uncomfortable with the seat other then the angle. The high tail of the ducati makes your body slide to the front of the seat (crushing your best friends against the tank). I have had jap bikes my whole life, nothing is like riding a ducati. what about riding. is it pretty easy to flick side to side. we have alot of good cayons here in california. how is the reach. i am 6ft 180lbs would it painful to ride. should i go 848, 1098s or 1198 thank you all for taking the time to reply i know i am asking alot of questions but with that much money at stake i want to be sure i am getting the best bike for me.
