Actually, movies 7-10 haven't been made yet but you know what Hollywood's like with cashing in on a winning formula so they're bound to be in the pipeline. To tell the truth, I would only rate the first Alien film as one of my all time fave's and probably have it at number 1, it's such a brilliantly atmospheric film, you really do feel you're in space and that scene where the alien is bleeping on the radar screen thingy moving towarRAB the man and they're telling him to get out of there gets me every time. Now I just have to think of another nine worthy titles! It's definitely films which evoke an emotion in me though not just special effects.

Number 1 would be Apollo 13.

im clearly on the wrong site for me looking at these lists. what really made my mind up was when i scrolled down and saw field of dreams in someones list. you sir are wasting your life. try checking out some kieslowski, or tarkovsky, perhaps some polanski or war-kai, or maybe even kassowitz.

anything but ****ing kevin costner man.

No-one has mentioned Schindlers list so I thought I would add it to the list of great movies. Also, when I first saw trainspotting at the cinema it blew my away, it's a little dated now but in the 90s it was one of the best films around, for social climate and youth culture at the time. I also like war films like The Pianist.

It's quite hard to make a top 20 list of your favourite films as you always forget to include films that you enjoy watching but don't necessarily spring to mind when asked to name a favourite, such as Terminator 2 and the Preditor. I like most of the early Arnold Schwarzenegger films and a couple of the newer ones like True Lies. The choice is vast really.

Well, I am entitled to enjoy any film I like, thanks very much mate! If you don't like Field of Dreams, fair enough, but don't lecture me on the kind of films I should or shouldn't like. Who died and made you god?

fair point, well made but field of dreams is a fun kiRAB film but there are many better films for a top 20. but if you bulid it they will come so good luck :)

I understand what you mean, but it does not matter if the film is directed by Kurosawa or Paul W.S. Anderson, as long as you enjoy what you watch. As much as I love The Seven Samurai and Yojimbo, it might not be in my top 20 but it does not stop me appreciating them.

I enjoyed Field Of Dreams, although it certainly is not a favourite, but if the person who had it in their top 20 film list wants it there, then why not? Would it not be boring if everyone had the same taste? Anyway, one person's Kurosawa might be one person's Uwe Boll ;)

Great work! Haven't seen Au Hasard Balthazar - you've got my interest, obviously.

Open Range is a superb movie, as is Dances With Wolves and JFK. There's a hell of a lot more enjoyable flicks in his body of work to boot. Although, now that you have pointed out the short-comings of others for liking dear ol' Kev I have completely changed my mind and agree he should be shot with a ball of his own faeces... or something.

Also: Bull Durham, The Untouchables, Tin Cup, and A Perfect World.

Don't get me wrong, Costner isn't anywhere near my favorite actor - it just gets on my nervous when someone thinks they can tell me what films I am allowed to like. :)

here's my 20 in no particular order.

All The President's Men
As Good As It Gets
Lost in Translation
Batman Returns
Back To The Future 2
Finding Nemo
Life of Brian
Top Gun
My Best FrienRAB Wedding
The Naked Gun
So I Married An Axe Murderer
Shrek
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
To Kill A Mockingbird
Beetlejuice
Muriels Wedding
Interview With The Vampire
Mary Poppins
Veronica Guerin
The Goonies

and probably one or two that I can't think of just now.

Yeah, it's a nice little film - nothing flash or fancy, but it works. Nice script, nice cast. Well worth a couple of hours of anyone's time, IMO :)
