- if you have a stove or a hot plate thing (and a fridge, be it small or big!) buy a 6 pack of eggs, instead of 12 pack and boil them. There great to mash up in a sandwich, or even just to eat with a slice of toast if time is short.
- Bread, but you knew that one.
- Pastas that can be cooked and shoved into a thermos,.
- crackers, cookies and chips (They are great on the run!)
- Deli Meats. Or, if you are sharing the dorm room with someone, you can go out and buy a small chicken that is precooked. Cut it up and you have fresh chicken in your fridge that will taste much better in the sandwich that the same old deli meats.
- Your Deli/HMR section of your Food store, may have premade food that was made fresh there that day. Some may be cold, or some you can just heat up. Good to pick up one or two of them. And they are quite good, believe it or not! Um, little corner stores often have stuff like that too. Feel your way through that one, and you should be sure to find some real favourites.
- Cereal of course! No University student should be ever without Cereal! Plus, if you don't mind eating ti sans milk, you can pour a little into a baggie, and but it in your bag. Great for eating in between classes, or even during as a quick pick me up!
- Fruit that you don't mind eating warm (Apples, Oranges, Grapes, Bananas). I, like some other people prefer our fruit to be cold, but whatever works for you.
- Frozen hot dogs, once again if you have a fridge and a stove/hot plate. They last Forever when frozen. And other things like that. Pogo's, Pizza Pockets, Mini pizzas.
- Go out and buy a few of those prepacked foods. Lean Cuisine etc.. There good if you only have 15 minutes to eat.
- Pop Tarts, and some of those 100 calorie snack boxes. They are good to eat on the run for a quick boost.
Maybe you should see about getting a Meal plan Card also. Not a full time, 3 meals a day card. But one with 5 meals a week on it? Or one that is preloaded it they have it. Just so if your not in the mood to cook, you can just run to the Cafeteria and pick something up.
Ask you Mom, Aunt, or Friends/Cousins who have been through College. I bet they have some great tips! Also, just when you have an afternoon, walk through your food store. You'll find some terrific ideas, and more choices for your lunches and dinners so you won't get bored with the same old thing!
Good Luck with University!
