Lindby Bars on C90

Hey guys, I'm new here. :)

I searched the forums but couldn't find an answer... I got a 2005 Black/Silver Suzuki C90, and LOVE it. I bought the Lindby engine guards/footrest combo from CruiserCustomizing.com.

I figured they would go on in minutes, it seemed simple enough. However, I can't get the spacers in properly. Basically, I put the spacers in, then try to install the guard, and the spacers seem to be too thick, by just under a quarter of an inch.

Has anyone ran into similar problems? Are the spacers just the wrong ones and I need to send them back?

Thanks for any help,
Alan

I put the bars on my '6 c90t. It was more work than I had anticipated. If I remember correctly, the instructions said to put the top bolt and spacers on first and then put the bottom bolts in. I could never get the bottom bolts to line up when I did it their way. So I put the bottom bolts in loose and used a prybar to spread the top bar enough to get the spacers and the bolt in. It was still tight. If I were to do it again, I would use something (spreading clamp, hydraulic jack, scissors jack, something like that) to spread the top a half inch of so before putting it on the bike.

Interesting, chilinski, thanks. I'm finding that it's very hard to bend the bars apart enough to get it in. Does any of the bar rest on the frame of the bike itself, or do the spacers keep it from touching the frame? I ask because it seems like it SHOULD touch the frame, to make sure in a time when it's needed, that it puts full pressure on the frame instead of on the part where the bolt goes through, since that's a thin piece of metal welded onto the frame. I wouldn't think it could handle a drop all that well.

To TaterDog: I've not had any time during the day when I can call them up. I'm super swamped at work. I will when I get a chance, but that's not likely happening anytime this week.

I will have to look at it again tonight. But unless I have forgotten everything, the bolt goes through a tube that is part of the frame. That tube had rubber plugs on the ends of each side of the bike. The spacers are between the bar and this tube.

Yeah now that I think about it, you're right. I think I just need to figure out some way of prying the guard apart just a LITTLE bit more. It doesn't require much, but my roommate and I both struggled with it. Because it's so tight, I've scratched a couple places on the frame, but those places should be covered up once it's in place. And once on, there's no reason to remove it...

I'll try to spread the bars a bit more and see if that helps.

FINALLY got them on! It took a lot of prying around, but you were right, I had to put them on the bottom first. There's enough play with the spacers that you can move them around a bit, but if you put the spacers part on first, the bottom just didn't line up.

Anyway, they are now on. :)

I'm sure this occurred to you after you got them on. What if you want to replace the rubber o-rings in the future? You know that means taking the damn bars off and then struggling to get them back on again.

It occurred to me while I was putting them on. I don't look forward to it.

What would be nice would be if they made some little clamps that can go on where the O-ring isn't an actual ring, but when the clams are locked, it forms a ring. Dunno if that makes sense, but I know I understand what I'm talking about. :)
