Light white coat

Do you smoke? Could be smoker's tongue.

Or maybe thrush, a type of yeast infection. Thrush is easily treated with a prescription antifungal mouthwash or lozenges.

Acid reflux could cause sore throat. Simple dehydration can make the tongue feel dry and "coated".

Taking antibiotics or steroids can cause thrush, even sometime after you've taken them.

Maybe a tongue scraper would work? I've seen them at the drug store, some toothbrushes are made with a scraper right on the back. It's suppose to help keep the tongue clean. I think it's a Colgate 360 brush.

This is most often caused by excess yeast. This can easily happen with eating sugar. For example, having hard candy very often can cause this to happen. Do you regular brush your tongue when you brush your teeth? You can also try a tongue scraper as the previous poster mentioned. If this doesn't help, then I'd definitely check with a doctor to make sure it isn't an infection.
