Lifespan of a standard Ford Galaxy Clutch?

My ford Galaxy has gone into the Ford Dealer for a Gearbox Fault (Think they said the Major Flywheel) Had a phonecall off them to say my clutch is 2/3 gone and did I want it replaced whilst the gearbox is out. The gearbox fault is under warranty as the car is only 18months old and has only don 14000 miles . Is it posible the gearbox fault caused the clutch to wear prematurely?

They want to charge me £230 for a new clutch
 
That all depends on your driving habits. My father-in-law burned the clutch out of my car in one day. That said, if you don't abuse it, 14000 miles is a very short life. So I'd say yes, you should blame the gearbox fault and try to get them to buy you a new one. Good luck.
 
Could be but also could be poor use of the box and clutch by the driver.
Failing to push the pedal all the way down at the right time could do this.
Some drivers, due to insecurity, are used to sitting too close to the wheel and this makes good clutch use very difficult to impossible.
The clutch is not covered by the warranty but you might get them to get Ford to agree to cover part of the clutch cost.
 
very possibly,this could be the case.14,000 is a very low mileage for a clutch to be this worn.unless of course you leave your foot on the clutch when you drive?.ford really should do the decent thing,and chuck in a new clutch,as the gearbox has to come out anyway.i'd push your point with ford,also speak to traiding standards about this for advice.good luck.
 
Clutch's can last forever if you drive them right. My car has 140,000 miles on it with the original clutch and it is fine, but if you are not shifting right then the clutch could only last 15,000 miles before it starts slipping.
