Lifedrive or TX?

Im thinking of replacing my old 515, and cant decide whether i should go for a tx or a lifedrive. is the additional price worth the 4 gig? i would like to use it as a multimedia player, as well as for the features i used my 515 for. another question is, im in germany, and i am just guessing that like my 515, both these handhelds would have the same language options. the salesman at the store wasnt sure last night, and i couldnt find any info on this from the palm sites. any help would be appreciated.

I'm thrilled with my T|X. Haven't really used a Lifedrive, other then playing with one in the Palm Store near my house.

The T|X will be closer to your 515 in size, if that matters. The lifedrive is larger and bulkier then the T|X, which was a big factor for me.

Also, you can always purchase memory cards for the T|X to give you more storage. i currently am using a 1mb card, but I know they have 2 mb cards, and I believe the T|X will also support a 4mb card, but I'm not positive about that.

When I was setting up my T|X for the first time, it asks what language I want to use, and gives a long list. I am sure German is on the list, but again, I don't remember seeing it, but I'd be very surprised if it wasn't. I'd bet either the LD or T|X can be used in german.

My suggestion would be, get the T|X, save some money, and put the savings into memory cards, which are coming down quickly in price!

If you have an electronics store near you, you should try to go and play with both devices. Maybe the size and weight of the Lifedrive won't bother you as much as it did me. I carry my Palm around every day, and want it as small and sleek as I can get it!

I'm sure you'll love either one! Big improvement over what you currently are using!

(Built in wifi is really a blast! Love being able to download mail, the weather, browse websites to read the news while sitting at my local coffee shop, etc.)

I believe Josh meant 1gig, 2gig and 4gig respectively....also the LD is known to have issues with a lot of software, mainly dealing with the hard drive issues and being able to use the unit as a flash drive...personally I want wifi, I bought the T|X and will eventually get the 4gig SD card for about $200 (USD)...then I will have more than the LD, (wifi/bluetooth 4 gigs and a more reliable handheld.)....Rich

PS. and Yes the T|X will handle the 4gig card

are you sure of that, I cant argue with you because i dont have T|X (yet)...
but i've heared that the it takes forever to handle the 1GB... and if u have this memory, u gotta get yourself a card reader, thanx...

I use a 1 gig in my TX and it is as fast as my 512 MB which is faster than my 128 MB which is faster than my 32 MB.

You can buy slow cards or faster cards but in my experience, size does not matter.

Card readers are the way to go for putting large amounts on a card and they are dirt cheap. Don't even consider HotSyncing multi-hundred megabyte files.

As far as Life Drive or TX, my only experience with the Life Drive is playing with one in the store but two things struck me. The Life Drive is very big (thick) and not pocketable for me. Also, it is way too slow to switch betweens apps for my taste. For that matter, the TX is slower than the TE, which I have been using, at switching apps.

If you don't mind me asking, how do you know this? I was about to purchase a 2 gig card and would be interested in knowing whether I could purchase and use a 4gig.

maybe its the way you have your launcher set (maybe not), I also went from a T|E to a T|X and the T|X runs circles around my T|E, (my son now has it), the LD has many issues and many have decided that it has way too many problems to deal with..the T|X seems to be the most stable unit out there right now..with the most capabilities whether you choose to use them or not. Some may or may not want bluetooth/wifi but as far as a unit goes Palm has done a pretty good job in delivering a handheld within most budgets packed with most things that people have been waiting for...Rich...
anyone with specific questions feel free to contact me...via this forum..personal email..or IM...............Rich

My TX is much faster than my TE "running" an app, but the TE is faster at "switching" from one app to another. It is also faster at launching an app via the hard buttons from the OFF state.

Do you have any suggestions on how I might have my Launcher set up so as to cause it to behave slower than the TE? I would be interested to try any suggestions to speed up the response of launching and switching apps. I am of course talking about the comparison of my TX to my TE (not an E2). I tried an E2 in a store side by side with my TE and the E2 seemed slower at launching and switching also. I attributed this to the way that the E2 (and the TX also) swap a program back and forth between volatile and non-volatile RAM which the older TE does not do.
