Life insurance application and medical history in Canada?

I stopped smoking a year ago, but when I went to my physician a while back (3 years ago) I was asked if I am a smoker, and i said yes. I know that life insurance application usually only asks if the insured smoked in the past 12 months to determine the smoker/nonsmoker rating. But it also asks if the insured ever used the nicotine products before. My answer should have been yes, but I said no on my application yesterday, because I quitted for more than a year.
I am worried that they will go to my family physician and find out that i used to be a smoker. Could it be the case? Please help!

yes that could be the case - so phone them and tell them you are an ex-smoker. Better to fess up than have them refuse your cover. It may also make a slight difference to the premium though not always. Hope this helps.
