KOREAN PHONE MAKER LG has announced that it will partner with Qualcomm for its next generation flagship smartphone that it plans to release in the third quarter.
LG and Qualcomm have enjoyed a close relationship for a while, and that looks set to continue. LG has revealed that the successor to its Optimus G smartphone will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU, which it claims will "redefine the smartphone experience".
LG is keen to talk about why this is a good thing, boasting that the Snapdragon 800 processor delivers "75 percent better performance" than Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 Pro chip. LG claims it will give its next generation Optimus G smartphone, which is likely to launch as the Optimus G2, with improved battery life, 4G LTE, increased data speeds and support for the Ultra HD display format.
LG Electronics CEO Jong-seok Park said, "With a powerful combination of LG's core smartphone technologies and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, we are taking a significant step forward in the mobile experience.
"The result of this collaboration will in many ways be the industry's best smartphone by which all other devices will be measured."
Murthy Renduchintala, Qualcomm Technologies EVP and co-president of Qualcomm Mobile and Computing said, "Fully tailored and tightly integrated with the entire next G series platform, the new, best-in-class Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor will help deliver blazing fast web browsing, eye-popping graphics, seamless connectivity as well as an unmatched multimedia experience."
Aside from the expectation that it will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU we don't know much about the upcoming LG smartphone. However, the online rumour mill suggests that we can expect to see Google's Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean mobile operating system, a 5in HD screen, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a 13MP rear-facing camera and a 3,000mAh battery. µ
