LGBT: How would LGBT be represented visually in the media?

Lesbian and gay tolerance, or acceptance, is slowly increasing in the US. Like in times after segregation, I think that in the future, the media will informally be required to represent the accepted diversities.

Issue: For African-Americans, it was conspicuous in a commercial, for instance. How would a gay guy be represented visually without stereotyping?
OK, that's for gays and lesbians, but what about transsexuals?

I guess just like any other working class citizen. Except with a same sex spouse.

I'm not sure if I'm going to answer your question the way you want but...

I think having masculine gay characters on television would help break stereotypes of gay men.

I think having more serious acting roles than using gay people for comedy.

There are tons of gay people in commercials already, they just don't boast about their sexual preference.
