What are the major effects to a Flood damaged/Titled car?
car has a Flood Title (from Mississippi, where the Katrina floods occured) and reported a total loss title to the DMV.

What are the long term effects of this, to the vehicle?

Is it possible to rebuild the engine so you never have problems at all, ever?

You're not worried about the engine. For the most part, the engine is fine. You could leave it submerged in the ocean for a month and you could probably still use the engine. There is more to a car than the engine.

You're worried about EVERY SINGLE ELECTRICAL PART on that car. And on a luxury car, that tends to be a lot of parts.

You could rebuild the car so that you'd never have any problems, but it would likely cost more than the car is worth. You'd have to take the entire car apart, make sure everything is dry, test and/or inspect everything, and put it back together, more painstakingly than when the thing was first built. That is the only way to be sure. Oh, and you'd be replacing a lot of stuff as you did this.

That car is good only for parts. And then only for non-electrical, non-porous parts. (engine block and internal parts, transmission, differentials and such, and sheet metal) Everything else is pretty much just scrap.

edit: Unless the title is branded "junk" or somesuch, it CAN be legally repaired and driven. It will just have that flood title (or if moved to a state which doesn't do flood titles, and no one fucks up and removes the brand, a salvage title) forever.

No way.
Flood damaged vehicle will never work the way they are supposed to, ever.
Water ruins some functions that can never be fixed.
Most dealerships won't even attempt to work on these kinds of cars. It's just a waste of time and lots of money.

it`s not the engine you have to worry about on a flood car, its the hidden electrical stuff under the dash, the computer harness connections, all the other stuff EXCEPT the engine will give you problems.

Just find a different car, unless you think that its "just so cool" because it`s a Lexus? Does anyone really care what kind of car you drive?
