I am thinking of buying either a Lexus RX350 or Mazda CX-9. The Mazda has more "bells and whistles" in that it has keyless ignition, blind spot monitor, etc. My only concern is that Mazda may be less reliable than Lexus. Any thoughts?
The Lexus I am considering is one of the remaining 2009s on the lot. The Mazda CX-9 is one of the remaining 2008s.

The 2008 Mazda and 2009 Lexus are essentially the same "age" since they were released close together.

The Lexus will be more reliable, but who knows because it really matters on how well you take care of it. I would still prefer the Lexus because of the prestige. The mazda's really haven't proved to me that they are really the best.

Both cars are reliable (lexus > mazda) but both are better than average. The RX350 is going to cost you a fortune! I absolutely 100% guaranty that the *NEW* 2010 RX350 will not be a negotiable price. If you dont want to pay full sticker, you wont get the car - all brand new cars are like this. It takes about 1 year for them to come down to earth - even during the *carpocalypse*

The CX-9 grand touring - will be less expensive - even before negotiations and has an amazingly large 3rd row seat (if that is something you require). I am 5'10 and have ridden in that seat for 1hour with minor complaints.

The RX350 will easily top $42,000 and the CX-9 will maybe top $35,000. I say save the $7,000 and put it in a savings for a rainy day - or revisit it later in 10 years when you want another car.

Best of luck
