Hi, I just started Lexapro yesterday (5 mg) and I've been suffering from irrational racing thoughts for months now after my doctor prescribed me a generic birth control in August, so I was wondering if anyone knows how long Lexapro will actually take to kick in and help me control these thoughts. Also, I'm currently off the generic birth control but continuing my original birth control that I have been taking for 3 years now. Thanks!

The usual therapeutic dose of Lexapro is at least 10 mg and up to 20 mg daily, so you will probably need to gradually raise the dosage to feel the full benefits. If Lexapro is going to help you, you should notice some improvement within 4 weeks.

I take 10 mg of the lexapro in the morning. I have problems sleeping at night. Do you think my doctor need to up it to 20mg? Or should I take it at bedtime. Have you trouble losing weight while on it?

Well she gave me 10 mg but I cut it in half because I wanted to slowly ween myself on it. I just started it yesterday so I don't really know what to expect. My doctor told me to take it in the morning since I have anxiety when I wake up so I'm not sure what you need to do, although I've read that people who have trouble sleeping at night take it before bedtime and it helps them.
