No the app does it all automatically. You just press the camera button to take the photo, then slowly move the camera sideways and it takes one continuous panoramic photo. I think nokia recently bought out the company that developed the panoman app.
Anyway i used to make these cool art type projects with my camera. I would stand in one spot and take about 30 pics while slowly rotating 360 degrees. I'd even do one level higher up to capture the sky, another level lower, etc. Then i would print out all the pics with good quality real glossy photo paper from walmart or cvs. Then you stitch the photos together on top of a huge black poster board. It actually gives very good results and you can hang it on the wall somewhere in your house.
You can either trim the final stitched photo so it looks like one giant 360 degree photo. Or the way i like it, you actually leave all the individual photos uncut. So that it looks like a bunch of jumbled smaller photos around the edges, but together it forms one awesome view. Its great to do in the mountains, grand canyon, the beach, etc.
The final pic is around 4 feet wide, and maybe this is too "artsy" for some. But its definitely fun to do. And its especially fun to use your phone camera to do it. The end result can really be impressive if done well.
