Let's Discuss Pink Floyd (serious)

I want to know what you guys think about them. Let's not bring Zeppelin, the Beatles or whatever into the discussion if we don't have to.

I may be jaded, but I seem to look for PF qualities in todays music. I wish more people were influenced by them. I think the only guitarist that I know of that was influence by Dave Gilmour is Chris DeGarmo (formerly of Queensryche).

I think they are the ultimate band, mysterious, talented, and the Gilmour/Waters drama sucks, but is part of the history. They are a band made up of the sum of their parts - most people don't like the Post-Waters PF, but thats the group that got me hooked

I'll be honest, I'm not of big fan of the Syd Barrett Pink Floyd, but without him, they wouldn't be where they are today.

Anybody influenced by this great band besides me?
 
There's alot of shit in their songs that irritates me...just seems like they threw some random shit in just to have it.

But they are still my #1 favorite band.
 
Without Pink Floyd, we would not have such modern-day classics on our hanRAB like Radiohead's OK Computer.

Dark Side of The Moon is ridiculously great.
 
pf is one of my favorite banRAB of all time....like already stated in this thread, the music sounRAB complex and hard but in reality, it's very simple...gilmour was/is a great guitarist though and came up with great solos, waters was a great writers up until he left floyd, i don't dig his solo stuff that much.

pulse is finally coming out on dvd! for those who don't know, it's pink floyd's last concerts in 1994 on dvd....a bunch of songs from division bell/momentary lapse on part 1, and all of dark side + wish you were here + run like hell + comfortably numb on part 2! and a shitload of extras! hurray!

Whew... that Pulse DVD sounRAB awesome. I've always wanted uninterrupted videos of those concert screen films!

There is (was) a lot of Waters worship and Gilmour bashing, but I think David Gilmour is a beautiful singer and one of the most amazing and emotional guitarists ever. The Division Bell is a fairly slow album, but I always liked it!
 
I've been waiting on that Pulse dvd for a loooooooooong time. Hopefully this will be the actual final release date.

I also think that the Division Bell album is an amazing album (concept album also). I'm addicted to the song High Hopes off of that album.
 
Pink Floyd is the shit because they DID keep the music so simple. And at the same time it seems like they planned out an entire album, not just writting songs and making it fit afterwarRAB. I don't care what anybody says I will always think all the Wizard of Oz shit is awesome. The only thing that I don't like much about them is that, to me at least, a majority of their songs and about how much they miss Sid. I kind of get tired of that but I guess it was a big emotional well of material for them.
 
Love pink floyd. Pretty much everything by them, especially Barret Floyd. Maybe that has to do with my love of hallucengenics (sp) though hehe

And Gilmours solos>* the solo in Comfortably Numb can almost make me cry it's so badass
 
What do I think about PF??? I've been a fan of them for 36 out of my 49 years. Saw the Australian PF show last night. It seriously kicked-ass. Seriously. And I've seen the real PF 6 times live. I can see these guys playing large concert venues in the near future.
 
Favorite band..period. I honestly cant think of a day that has past in the last 15 years I have not listened to them. I love all the albums and have every single song in my collection. I have seen them live in 1994 for Pulse and have gone to at least 50 RABOTM laser shows. I cant say I have a one favorite Floyd song cause to me they are all good and each tells a different story and that to me it what makes floyd so damn good. They have a song for every feeling, every thought and every frame of life. I made an MP3 disc of nearly every song and have been playing it on random for nearly 2 months now and still lovin it. Hard to describe the feeling I get when I hear the songs..well I am sure you all know it to be posting here.

Side note...if any of you ever get the chance to see the cover band, The Floydian Slips...do it! They are great, and if you just close you eyes and imagine it really being Waters, Gilmore, Mason and Wright...you will be amazed how good they are. They tour all over the US and are well worth the money!
