does it really matter..if govt gets involved people complain..if they don't people complain..

hell 5 days after the explosion conservative media was declaring it obama's katrina

But is now saying that BP and the federal government must be in charge of cleaning the oil spill?

Clean it yourself you fucking douchebag

Nobody cares if the government gets involved. But when they say they've been responding from day one, and nothing happened in reality, then yeah, they lied, and birds died. We'll complain with every lie that comes our way.

Let BP fix their mess. Let folks do what they gotta do to survive. But damn, don't criticize them and their efforts if you're not gonna do anything about it yourself.

Nope.

There's another thread on this and the consensus there seems to be that asking people who ask for money to cloean this stuff up is a strawman argument.

So.... no.

Just shooting from the hip, my guess is, they want to spread the costs around a bit one way or another. That would prevent BP from having to manipulate their product pricing, which means that for those of us on the consumer end, the goal here is to keep gas prices (etc) down. Maybe they eventually pay back everyone - government(s) included - who lend a hand in the process.

What the hell are we supposed to do?
It's not like I can say, I am going to the Gulf of Mexico and clean this mess if nobody seems to be doing anything about it.

Are you really defending BP?

Sure you can

How much do you know about the situation? I'm defending them in the fact that hey, accidents happen. I'm defending them in the fact that they are doing the best they can to fix this problem. I'm defending them in the fact that they know much more about these things than you or I do.

I'm attacking people who have a political agenda against them and don't want to "waste this crisis" for political purposes. I'm also attacking the government for sayin they are doing something when they aren't really.

It's funny that most of the criticism seems to go against the government. I haven't seen anyone criticizing BP as far as this clean up goes.

The Conservatives went as far as comparing this event to Katrina. If anyone should be blamed as far as political agenda goes, it should be the Republicans.

You've missed all the protests and signs against BP?

And what about the cleanup can one justify a protest for? There is not a single person that doesn't want BP to clean it up, so protesting their efforts would be odd to say the least.

This became Obama's mess when he and his admin claimed they were taking "action" on day one, only to find out they had not. That is when it became their "Katrina". You have nobody to blame but Obama for that.

...and if required measures had been in place, damage would be considerably less. They greased palms (on both sides of the aisle), cut corners, and shirked their responsibility to the people and planet, so fuck 'em.

I'm no treehugger, but BP fucked up. Sure, it was an accident. But they were required to maintain a certain level of readiness for such accidents, and willfully failed to do so.

Louisiana doesn't own or control the waters the spill happened in.

It's US maritime territorial waters, governed by the federal government.

The oil rigs and their safety and compliance are regulated by the US government.

I don't see an issue with them asking for help from BP and the fed in cleaning up the mess caused by BP sanctioned on federal waters by the federal government.

It would seem that way...which is another criticism of the gov...they can't criticize saftey measures that the gov turned a blind eye to.

Not defending the government at all (I seldom do, lol)...I'd bet even Al Gore has benefited from BP's campaign contributions, likely Obama as well. So Libtards trying to paint the 'other guys' as "more guilty" are fucking morons.
