Lesbian Vampire Killers gets a Kicking! Anyone Seen it?

Went to see it at the weekend, its a good film. Found it very funny myself, had me in stitchs at times, i think if you like the sense of humour shown in gavin and stacey you will find it funny.

Not the best film ive ever seen but far from being the worst. Didnt read any reviews on it before hand so cant comment on them but id give it a solid 8.5/10. Deffo worth a trip out to the cinema to see.

Erm ...

Lol. Yes, I did see it. The start was god-awful (although my attention was pricked by the very prominent Adnams pump in the pub, and the actors drinking from Adnams glasses; Adnams is my very favourite beer and brewed locally!) though it either picked up midway through or I became used to the crapness of it!

The last half was enjoyable, if you completely suspend your taste, but it was no Shaun of the Dead.

I saw it last night. Third time this week I have been to the cinema after seeing Watchmen on Sunday and Duplicity on Monday. And you know what? Lesbian vampire killers was definately the most entertaining and enjoyable of the three. Watchmen and duplicity were dire and boring. LVK was silly but fun and not at all boring. Loved the choice of song at the end too!

I walked out of the cinema uttering the statement: "I'm not sure about the political implications
of stabbing evil lesbians with phallic shaped sworRAB
but damn that was funny!" LVK is wicked. Really. It kinda works on two levels, I suppose.

On the one hand, it's just stupid comedy... Gavin and Stacey/Catherine Tate/Little Britain type stupid comedy. If you're fond, you'll laugh. I giggled with the best of them in the packed cinema on opening night. There were some fabulous one liners. The good looking one (from Catherine Tate) was particularly adorable in this and surprisingly, there was actually quite a good plot. Throw in some gorgeous women, some of them being amorous lesbians and yes, on a shallow and humorous level - ace movie. Woohoo.

On the other hand, there was actually some quite controversial material in there. My friend and I actually bickered about it on the way home. I watched from the perspective of a gay woman. He watched from the perspective of a straight man. In a really positive way, I thought the film opened up an interesting discussion of the roles of men and women in society and how lesbians are portrayed in the media. There was the idea of the hot lesbian. There was the idea of the evil lesbian. There was the male (and related parts) defeating the lesbian. So there was the idea of men as good/powerful/heroic.
The film also gave women and gay girls redeeming features.
So actually I thought the film was pretty clever and quite symbolic and worked on levels beyond the 2-dimensional being fed to us in the trailers.

Judge for yourself.

Critics reviews are nothing more than empty worRAB. I ALWAYS watch a movie and judge for myself. I never take anyone else's word for it on any movie. As not everyone likes the same.

What was it Bruce Willis once said: who gives a damn what critics think this was when he was being interviewed by that old duffer Barry Norman.
