Leon Remake?

According to Variety magazine there are plans to remake Leon.
The only difference with the planned remake is that Matilda is already a killer but she wants to live a normal life again.

What is the point? The original is 13 years old, so why do a remake.

Its becoming a worry that Film studios are prepared to fund remakes instead of new ideas. Especially remakes that aren't that old to begin with.

As for Leon, Natalie Portman has ruled out Leon 2 aka Matilda which is a shame.

I wouldn't mind a sequel, but a remake, or as they have it now, a re-imagining, would seem somewhat redundant.

Remake??!! Utterly pointless. I love Leon, one of my favourite all time films, it DOESN'T NEED REMAKING!!!

A sequel... also kind of pointless without Natalie Portman. Why oh why.

The public today want remakes. The box office reflects this. It's so easy to blame the film-makers when they're just responding to public demand.

Re-makes are ok if the film is a few decades old, but Leon is hardly old at all. They should just leave it alone and spend the money on something else, but as someone else has already pointed out they don't want to take the risk.

the thing with remakes and of this film in particular is what on earth are they going to improve ? there weren't any special affects so they can't update anything there and none of the performances can be improved on either.

it's like when they remade Pyscho and apart from using colour every shot was the same as the orig ( or so i'm told as I never saw it )

would be nice to get a few orig ideas out there

Exactly. Leon doesn't need to be remade in colour, like Psycho. Leon doesn't need to be remade in English, like Nikita. Leon isn't a cheap TV Movie and doesn't need to be remade for the cinema, like LA Takedown. Leon isn't an adaptation and it doesn't need to be remade to match its sequels, like Manhunter.

There's just no good reason for a remake!
