Leon - Directors Cut on Blu-Ray

For all you fans of the film Leon out there: the Blu-Ray version is coming out in September, and it's the excellent Directors Cut too.

I have this on DVD, but it's Region 1 NTSC, so the PQ isn't great.

Really looking forward to seeing this in its true glory.
 
You really should watch it. Admittedly, despite having had it on DVD since it was first issued, I've not watched it for many years. But it's right up there with Shawshank in my opinion.

I think it is probably hugely underrated. How many people immediately think of Leon as probably one of the best films ever made?
 
Is this the version that has more implied Paedophillia aspects in the film?

Thats not my cup of tea, I like the version thats about the now.
 
The directors cut has been availale on Region B Bluray for quite some time.
A German release feature both versions aswell as all the interview features that are on the R1 dvd.

And in a lovely steel case too
 
There is no peadophilia in the long version.

There are just a few scenes where the girl asks Leon some sexual questions

There is no hint that they will have a relationship
 
Is it any good though? Ive seen it on shop shelves and stuff but ive never actually seen it. Infact ive never even seen it listed on television. I might buy it just to see what all the fuss is about.
 
I have a steelcase edition AND its high definition too :p

Movies on dvd is so yesterday .

And a waste of money too if there is a Bluray option aswell.

I still buy a few on dvd but its a bit like when dvd started - buying movies on VHS was a waste - and it really was as tapes were quickly valueless - just as some dvd's are heading

The tech specs show that the difference between DVD and Bluray is actually greater than the difference between vhs and dvd.

However I think the problem was that VHS was so bad and an awful lost of people used the LP level for recording which was hideous.

And Bluray's improvement gets more noticeable the larger your screen.

If you have a 50" dvd will look pretty ropey but on a 32" dvd still looks pretty good.

But it still does not change the fact that dvd's are becoming valuless very quickly .

While I don't disagree with you, Play's sales are far from what they used to be. Over the last couple of years, they've become very expensive, and many of its sale banners are just downright misleading.

VHS also had the problem of being an analogue format. It was never going to be able to reproduce the accurancy that a digital format like DVD can. Picture quality also suffered due to wear and I'm sure we all had the fun experience of tape wrapped around the heaRAB when you ejected!



Can#t agree with that at all. I've got a 50" plasma HDTV and have had it for about five years. DVRAB look fantastic on it. Blu-Rays do look better, mainly for the sharpness and colour saturation (bright colourful scens on Blu-Ray can blow your mind!!)

But DVD is far from ropey. I can still easily watch DVRAB since getting Blu-Ray and am not put off by the drop in picture and sound (got a TrueHD-capable amp, too) quality. I can see the difference, but its not a showstopper.

Unlike VHS to DVD - at which point I couldn't stand to watch VHS any more.


As for the film in question, I love, love, LOVE it! Its one of those films that really qualifies as art, as well as straight entertainment. Beautifully directed and beautifully acted.

I already have the DVD, though, so am in no rush to pay full price on the Blu. I'll wait until it hits the bargain bins.
