Lengthy SMS/MMS threads slow

I seriously notice less lag and force closes since rc33. Only cuz I was using chomp and didn't realize I had a thread with 600 texts... then it got laggy. Normally that would have happened around 400 texts.
 
I wish chompSMS would have the same numbering system like the default messaging application did so you would know how many messages were in each thread.
 
Yes, messaging has def gotten better since rc33.. Thank god. I have several threads over 200 and one over 400 and it's not lagging much and hasn't force closed once.
 
Since I started this thread I'll comment further since RC33. Not only does this issue seem to be resolved but the phone seems to be a lot faster in general. However, scrolling through a thread with MMS' does slow down a bit.
 
Ok thanks for all the help on this thread everyone. I've gone ahead and downloaded MyBackup. My problem at this point is deleting the large threads clogging up my sms. I've tried everything... including resetting msging settings...When I delete these threads one by one it just gets jammed and frozen. Where do I go to delete all SMS/MMS threads?
 
When you delete a large thread, sometimes it looks like it is frozen, but you usually just have to wait. If it prompts you to force close or wait, just click wait, and it should eventually clear out.

As far as backup, I've been using SMS Backup, which automatically sends all SMS messages to GMail with an SMS tag. It is very convenient and easy to use. It is great to know that I have everything backed up online, and that I can delete all of my threads whenever I need to without losing any info.
