I'm not a Jim Carrey fan, I still have yet to rent this movie, I wasn't sure if I was going to like this movie so I waited for the rent dvd time when it comes out...

Now I’ve read the first book, half of the second book and half of the third book, so I had an idea of what I was getting myself into by seeing the movie. I thought the movie was great! I think Jim Carrey made Count Olaf too much of a cool character which I wasn’t to happy with. Jude Law doing the voice over for Lemony Snicket didn’t go over with me well either but aside from that I loved the movie. Now if you don’t mind I need to go find my copies of the books and read through all of them.

I finally got around to watching this. I really enjoyed it. It was hard for me to watch the stuff in the reptile room, since snakes seriously scare me, but other than that. I thought Liam and Emily were really good. It makes me want to read the book series.

Cool - thanks, everyone, I'll definitely check it out - and the books really do sound interesting.

I was actually dragged along to it, because my mother wouldn't let my ten year old sister see it unless she had a guardian with her, because it was supposed to be all dark. And she didn't want to go, so I was forced into seeing it. I think I enjoyed it more than her. I loved the acting (minus Jim Carrey, but I've only ever liked him in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and I was proud to see little Aussie Emily Browning up there. I couldn't even hear her accent, she hid it extremely well.

It's not that depressing...dark, yes, but not in a serious way. It's more overexaggerated, I found that humerous. The narrator is all "If you want to see something happy, go to cinema two now. Don't say I didn't warn you..." but it's a kids movie, so it's pretty much all bark, little bite. Although, yes, I jumped in one part. :look: When the snake jumped out, hmmm. I loved the Happy Littlest Elf gags and the intro, set the movie perfectly. But there are plenty of one-liners that detract from the darkness. I think it's a great holiday film that kids over nine and adults can both enjoy.

I think I might check out the books before university starts again.

I've pretty much accepted that there won't be a sequel. But I want there to be a cartoon so bad!

I wish I had stayed for the credits but my brother wanted to get home since we got out of the thearte at 2am.

I fount this pic of little Liam, isnt he cute!?

aww every fandom must have incest..not a big fan of it most of the time  ick in this case..there could be real Snicket ships but if the movies don't happen there can't be art for it..well I guess there still can if people do manips and such.

Despite having never read the books, I absolutely loved the movie when I saw it with a young friend. The visuals were particularly beautiful and the cast was very...attractive :P
Anyway, I enjoyed it.

Yea i saw this movie opening night with one of my friends just 4 hte fun of it, and it really wasnt that bad because I thought that I wasnt gonna like it. But it acutally was really good and the acting was great! :)

Yep, Liam (Klaus) will be 15 this January, and man, when his big blue eyes filled the screen, I was almost floored  He's just five months younger than me! Like butterflyz said, when he hits puberty, he'll pretty nice looking ;)

I did enjoy the movie and I adored the end credits. The best I've ever seen, really. Then again I don't really stay for the credits since they're always boring, but these were amazing. Very creative.

Emily Browning is gorgeous and she played Violet so well. I really didn't find Jim Carrey much scary or funny either. He was really goofy and I know it is a comedy, but he has to be scary at some parts.

There's a ton of foreshadowing in this movie and it had elements of the first three books, so I think there will be probably be a sequel depending on how well it does (and I think it's doing pretty well).

I saw it last night and I really, really enjoyed it. I had never read the books and didn't actually care if I saw the movie or not, but agreed, went, and thoroughly enjoyed it. And I laughed out loud several times, which I didn't expect at all.

The direction was brillaint with images much like Tim Burton, Jim Carrey didn't annoy me (which I expected) and the girl who plays Viola I thought was just beautiful. I think people were a little blah when they heard Brad Silberling would be directing this, but I think he's great, and proved himself again witht his movie.

Pretty enjoyable.

I thought that this movie was really cute. I'm reading the first one and its pretty good.

maybe I'll go see this on Sunday with my nephews.

The more I think about it, the more appealing it is to me...:D

Oh, no worries - I think that if neither of us could find it then this one is just fine. :)

By the way, I've never read the books, but I hear they're a bit depressing (which is why I'll probably stay away from the films, even though the first one looks really interesting). Care to comment?

I think he is 14 years old if Im not mistaken

JacquiJack- I jumped a bit at both parts but the first time the snake popping out of the cage, a few people in the audience including myself jumped
