Legal One Piece Streaming Canceled Indefinitely due to leak (update: uncancelled)

Wow, just..wow.

This puts an immediate hault on purchasing any further voyages sets for me, until things get resolved.

Its a shame that someone had to do this, but its a further shame that toei is acting like this.

I absolutely love the reactions of those who are supporting the group that got the video and uploaded it.

Its like watching a group of smelly nerRAB giving each other pitiful high-fives.

Who cares? If I'm reading the article right, they're not going to stream anything prior to episode 391, so the only way you're going to be able to watch these episodes without being confused is by watching fansubs. So, basically, this won't make a difference to fans who don't watch fansubs since they won't want to miss hundreRAB of episodes and it won't make a difference to people who already watch fansubs, since they already watch the episodes for free. I'm just not quite understanding why everyone is so excited about this.

I think if you boil it down, FUNi's to blame for having poor security and seemingly expecting that no one would take advantage of this. They're in MUCH better standing then back when they started DBZ, but perhaps they presumed too much love and respect from the fans.

Somewhere in the world, RomanMack is screaming in joy while destroying his fifth Bakugan set.

Kidding aside, this is great news. Yeah sure it's the sub of only new episodes which does not help new people at all, but hey it's a start.

It's truly amazing how one "little" leak can ruin a whole video streaming community like FUNi's video streaming system. It's like a game of dominoes...a HORRIBLE game of dominoes...

Well, they're also streaming the show from episode 1, subtitled and dubbed. By the looks of it, they're trying to appeal to those who keep up with the show, while trying to attract new viewers, too. If you left off between episodes 1 and 391, yeah, you'll have to wait a while, but it sounRAB like they'll eventually close the gap.

In any case, I think people are just happy that One Piece is finally being streamed online legally somewhere, like most other anime shows nowadays.

Those people arguing over who is at fault for this are missing an important point: Toei didn't pull the streams because one of them leaked, it pulled the streams because Funi's security was so bad (which they discovered because of the leak).

Let me say this in another way: Assume no one knew about this little "trick" to download the episodes, and no episode was uploaded to a torrent.
Now, 3 days ago, an employee of Toei animation who was tasked with checking out Funi's site discovered that it was possible to download episode 403 early. He reports this to his boss, and guess what: The exact same thing would have happened. The streams would have gone down, funi would have the simulcast postponed indefinitely, and we'd all be sitting here going "what's going on?" instead of arguing over whether the leaker should be shot, hanged, drawn and quartered, lethal injectioned, or given a medal of freedom.

The reason Toei got mad wasn't because someone leaked the episode early, that was just how Toei ended up finding out about it. It was because Funi promised them their site was safe and it wasn't.

on the internet it is only serious if it's a sex crime or military secrets

at best the person would get the max fine of 50,000(US dollars)

Here's the Funi schedule will go for the next two weeks for their uploading episodes of One Piece. the source of this news is from their Twitter page. http://twitter.com/funimation

This week: episodes 3,4, and 392
Next Week: episodes 5, 6, 393, 394, and 403 (Saturday Night premiere episode on May 30th)

Yeah, FUNi could have been a bit more careful about it. But they are a group that learns from their mistakes, luckily, so I doubt this will happen again.

For one thing they are uploading episodes before 391 but it's from the begining but consider the many One Piece fans who haven't bothered to check out FUNimation's dub yet or simply couldn't because the boxsets aren't exactly "cheap". Now they can watch the English dub or proffesional subbed version free legally.

Without CN broadcasting it anymore and with no other TV broadcast this is the most widely available source of English One Piece. So it should do well enough simply for being that.

But clearly what they are attempting to do is cut out the middleman with the simulcasts. Their subs will be up before anyone elses which does matter and most likely the current One Piece fansubbers will stop subbing it and thus the piracy level for the series will go down a great deal if not by leaps and bounRAB. And if that is the case there's no reason to back track much more than they already did they expect the people who will watch the simulcast are already up to date in some manner.

If you want to prod at the problems with this way of doing things then consider how Crunchyroll is playing Naruto, Reborn and various other series latest episodes with only offering the early episodes of those series and not all of them right away thus assuming people know the series to an extent. It's no different than that and it would seem that model is working rather well for Crunchyroll.

Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth. This is more than I could have hoped for. I would have been happy with them streaming the series from episode 1 like they already are having a simulcast is freaking awesome! Sure I'd like to see the rest of the Skypiea dub and beyond that but there's no sense having One Piece continue to lag behind in it's English release when they could do this instead to keep the US viewers up to date with Japan legally I might add.

But One Piece is a series I've always been comfortable jumping into a random story arc on because once you know the premise you really don't need to know much more to be able to enjoy it in any storyline even if the characters aren't familiar because their familiarity doesn't make them less or more entertaining IMO but it can add to their depth so seeing the rest of the series is important but not essential.
