Legal Issues For My Book?

I'm writing a novel, inspired by a true story and experiences (in my life) and I need to know if it's legal for me to use the first name of people who I actually know, even if they aren't the inspiration for my characters. Can anyone help me out?
 
of course you can. their names aren't copyrighted or anything. If people weren't allowed to use names others have, no one would have the same name. Plenty of authors use the names of real people, though the character is not the person they got the name from (Dan Brown has done it, Stephen King has done, and I'm sure others have).
