This is still in the stage of speculations. Please bare with me, nothing is official yet, but there are three discussed and separated plans right now at BXV (FYI only, I repeat, this is speculative).

1) All legacy packages will be increased of $5 per month.
2) Some very old (I don't which, though) legacy packages will stop to exist. If you don't change your programming, you'll one day wake up with only the Digital standard and an invitation to remake your programming.
3) Legacy programming changes WILL BE ALLOWED after the increase.

When I signed 2 years ago they had a promo of basic plus 1 free them pack.

The basic 2 years ago was $25 so I got 1 theme pack as a bonus. So it was $25 plus $5 for the theme pack, then I was credited the $5 back. So when I called they said that my term was over and that my new price is $31 for basic plus $8 for 1 theme pack.

So that is a price difference of $25 to $39....an increase of $14 ..not good...

Cheers!!!

DJ,

I signed up when there were no deals...no promos, no nothing but here is the programming and here is your hardware pay it or look elswhere. At that time all you got when you bought the dish was a single LNB wihich had a SINGLE coax connection. You paid for everything, dish, IRD, install, etc. If you wanted an upgrade to a single LNB with dual coax you paid an extra $50 bucks!!!

Then came the dish upgrade around a year plus later...aka repointing existing customers dishes. Bell changed out existing customers dish & LNBs and voila you now had a dual LNB at no charge....of course the reason it was no charge was Bell moved all the programming on to a different satellite and if they did not do the replacement/repoint you had no service...lol

Everytime I would ask a CSR or the exec office about promos for existing customers I was told "...we will always notify our existing customers of any promotions.", yet I never received a single promo via mail or voice or on the system!

At least I am still paying a reasonable amount in exchange for all those promos!!!! I feel I am ahead on the programming vs. promos!!!!

Who would want to downgrade? LOL I have a 1999 package and it has all the channels I want (very limited HD true) at a total of $64/month (including TAXES)!!! If I downgrade to Digital standard I would save roughly $25/month and lose 75% of the channels and all the movie channels!!!

If I upgrade to a 'current' package I have to pay an additional $35/month (according to the last CSR who asked me to "upgrade") and gain channels I have no interest in watching. The CSR was awfully sheepish when she read out the price and mumbled..."never mind!!!".

Genesis? Do you mean current packages or did I miss something?

That's easy for someone at EV to say now. The policy was quite clear at the time but it was a very short time. Also, there were few HD channels at the time (except for the US nets) and the Canadian channels showed virtually no HD.

I don't argue with EV's right and logic of charging $10 for an HD package at this time. I just wish EV would put together theme packages that make more sense. Putting movie channels and kids channels in theme packs with teen music channels makes no sense. I switched from *C to EV in part because of *Cs poorly constructed theme packages and EV's well thought out theme packages. Now, EV is letting business decisions, not common sense, determine their programming choices. It just doesn't sit well with some people.

Promos? As a new customer, I paid $800 for a 6000 that didn't even come with enough hardware to receive HD. I had to purchase an LNB and switch separately for $50. A 3100 was $189 extra. There were no programming promotions at the time either. I did get a $100 installation credit. Then, there were so many signal losses due to rain fade (especially compared to *C) that I spent another $150 for a decent sized dish. A 5800 PVR (another $400) worked correctly for about two months befor EV zapped it with faulty firmware that was not fixed for almost a year. Similar firmware problems have plagued my 9200 (another $600). No now EV wants to pass on a 30% programming price increase so that new customers can rent or buy equipment for next to nothing. :o

One of the original promotions was the switch from grey market to Evu and/or Starchoice. It was in existance when we purchased our first Evu system in July 1999. By trading in the old big dish equipment we received the Evu equipment for free plus cost of installation. In our case we upgraded to the 4700 for $200. Installation of the dual lnb was $199.....the post was $29 and the 150 feet of cable was $48. The total cost with taxes was $547.40 Since we lived in the country (no cable) it seemed to be a great deal at the time.
Our programing package was "All You Can Eat" at $49.95 per month....a savings of $11.70 and included Free Time Shifter Feature. Over 100 channels of Digital Picture and Sound. No HD in those days It seems so long ago but it is not as we tend to forget about the improvements that have occured in such a few years.

I just received a notice on my bill that Digital Standard is going up to $31 April 30. That could be the $5 increase. The old rate and amount of increase are not stated. Neither is the new package rate. I guess I will need to wait for the new mystery bill before I find out what it will be. Then there was the $3 increase in the System Charge. That's $8. I thought there was another $3 increase in the basic package but I was mistaken.

If I want to keep the same level of service, moving to the new packages will cost $83/mo. That still brings the total increase to $14 on a $68.97 programming package. That's a 20% increase in about 6 months.

The $5 increase only affects Legacy clients. You are on Genesis so it won't affect you.

it wasn't a "policy", it was reps that didn't know what they were doing...the HD was NEVER a theme package...it was just that the system allowed it to be entered that way, so some reps that didn't know what they were doing thought it was OK to do...when it became known reps were incorrectly provisioning accounts, it was immediately halted.

as i have stated several times, the HD package was NEVER a theme pack you could use in your Super or Ultimate programming package...it was simply done in error, of which some people have been reaping the benefits of for years.

By the way Gino Cerullo clients on the new programming plateform, who by the way were already paying more than you on the older plateform ALREADY have been PRICE INCREASED since February. Their increase was 4$

By switching to the new packages you will avoid that 5$ increase, remove your 4.99$ or 2.99$ multiple receiver fee and also remove the 5.99$ system charge. Since the theme packs are designed differently taught you might end up taking more themes, but in most cases the switch is worth it considering that increase. You can also ask us to put the work order opened until the 30th of April if you don't want to go throught the increase before

1) That will make the legacy packages at least as expensive for most long term customers, making it worthwhile to switch. But why should we accept yet another price increase? That will make an $11 (plus tax) increase in about 6 months.
2) Yeah, that's right. Screw the longest term, most loyal customers that have supported EV for years, yet again.
3) Does that mean HDNet, and DisHD will be added to my legacy HD package? If not, forget it.

And what do HD customers get for the increase? Fixed bugs in their 9200s? A better guide for name based recordings? The elimination of dropouts on most channels? Or will it be business as usual with botched simsubs using substandard signals that violate CRTC guidelines?

I will be thinking about these options:
1) Will Dish will be a better, cheaper option after the rate increase?
2) FTA receivers are flying off the shelves. Maybe EV should fix their security instead of screwing paying customers.
3) My EV bill is getting way too high. I will need to explore ways of reducing it soon.

well, as the cost of providing the service increases, so does the cost you need to pay for it...if it makes you feel any better, rogers has been steadily increasing their cable prices over the years as well, so you aren't any worse off, and have been getting the benefits of satellite tv for years.

An update on the price increase:

- Locals will go up by $5. All Legacy clients out of contract will get the increase (April 1st).
- Letters will be sent between the 1st and the 31st of march.
- Only downgrades will be accepted for Legacy. If you want to upgrade, you'll have to go to Genesis.

friends and family runs twice a year...since July, the Nimiq2 upgrade offer is available for existing subs...during christmas, there was a combo offer for a Sony big screen HD tv and 9200 offer giving you $400 off.

there are and have been offers for existing subs...but i agree, there should be more, especially for those looking to go HD.

but you have been getting $39 worth of programming on special for $30...your promo is over and you need to pay the regular price now...not sure what the problem is there...you could have declined the promotional price and paid regular price your entire term so your increase wouldn't have been as "big".

Ok help me out. Why shd I stay with Bell? Just got my letter...I am on an old super 7 pkg with 4 receivers, will be paying $57 with increase at the end of April. This includes HD and $5.99 system access fee. I do not pay for multiple receivers. If I switch, I will reduce total number of channels I receive and pay approx the same. Rogers, will swap out my old 2700 , 4700 and my 2 HD receivers and for $46 plus $10 for HD I get more channels and new equipment. Bell does nil for existing customers making it hard to remain loyal. Thank you for listening to my rant...:)

how do you pay $64 including taxes for Ultimate 7?

i had that package before switching and it was $59.99, plus the system charge of $5.99 plus the additional receiver fee of $2.99 for a total of $68.97 PLUS taxes.

i just moved over to the newer programming (DS, Movies and 6 themes) which was $68 plus taxes and i got all the new channels.

EDIT: NM, i thought you mentioned Ultimate 7, you must "All you can eat", as it was $52.95 i believe, plus fees.

Then when Rogers has you, they can raise your prices and not offer you any incentives to stay. The you'll ask, why should I stay with Rogers? Price increases are a fact of life, but if you think you can do better elsewhere, I say go for it.

It is not $39 worth of programming for $30 dollars, it is $25 worth of programming at $25. "List or MSRP" pricing matters not even though you may be convinced it is.

A simple comparitive is a house/car/computer/cell phone may be listed at a million dollars but the owner is willing to sell it for a limited time (because many potential buyers do not want to pay the million dollars) at $750,000. They did not necessarily get a $250,000 savings. Look at cell packages, alarm packages, etc.

The person was not willing to pay the million ergo the true value is what the market will bear/pay.

The customer had a bill increase of $14 and that is an accurate descriptive of what happened to their bill. They can choose to pay the extra $14, reduce their service or cancel. You may feel that the service is worth $39, but it is the CUSTOMER, not Bell, an installer or a reseller who will determine whether the service is worth the price.
