Leg Weakness

For a little while now, I have noticed that my legs are feeling progressively weaker. Today is horrible. I have very little stamina. I was trying to carry my daughter down the stairs and I nearly collapsed. Luckily my husband came to my rescue.

I started Neurontin 3 days ago, and I am wondering if that could be part of it.

I have been asked about leg weakness by all my doctors. What does it mean if I do? At Urgent Care a week and a half ago I failed the strength test, so they sent me to the ER. At the surgeon's office the next day, they thought my strength was fine when they did those (walk on your heels and tip toes) tests.

Any ideas?

Hi Meggs...
The leg weakness if for sure part of your back issues. I have severe leg weakness. I am hoping to regain strength after I totally heal from my surgery. I donot think the neurontin is causing it. It is your back causing it. Just wait till after your surgery and you heal and then........go to the gym or walk walk walk everyday that you can. Before my surgery, I could hardly walk upstairs to my bed at night. I had to stop at the top of the stairs and wait a second or 2 lol....just be patient darlin......and by all means....be careful holding the baby. In fact, if you can get by NOT holding her, the better off you may be. You really shouldnt hold her after you have your surgery.....

I found out over the months that the more I do, the weaker my legs got. Around the house you get to rest, sit, lay etc. If I go out and try to walk down say, an aisle of a grociery store, my legs start to get weak, buckle, shake, and it just depenRAB how much I do whether or not they do it. Some days when it's really irritated in my back it happens quicker. It usedto be prior to my first surgery, I only had ten to fifteen minutes before it started and my SO would catch me and nearly carry me.

When you read on herniated discs etc, it does show that leg weakness is part of it and a signal for surgerical intervention.

Okay. Does it mean there is a nerve compression?

Lynn- I totally have to stop for a minute or two as well after I walk up the stairs! By the end of the day, when I am going to bed, my husband as to walk up with me and stabalize me.

Rose- I have also experienced the buckling many times. So far, I always catch myself, but I am afraid that one day it will happen in public.

I try not to carry Grace as often as I can. I should have asked my hubby for help today, because obviously Grace cannot walk herself down the stairs yet.

I have decided to try and leave my house more often, as hard as it is. It is just so depressing to stay cooped up all day every day in the winter. I am so glad spring is around the corner. Today we went to Target. That is do-able because I can walk holding onto a cart, it is kind of like a walker. Today I bought some things to start preparing for surgery. I am stocking up on frozen dinners, and I got Grace some spring clothes because I wont be able to do it in a month when she neeRAB them. Now I am paying the price though. I hurt big time!

I do believe it is nerve compression, I have L5 nerve impingement on my MRI, but prior to this my other surgery I had 2 extruded discs with no mention of specific nerves, and the pain and buckling was due to them pushing in the downward position onto my sciatic nerve and just squashing it.

It's good that you get to go out, I wish! I haveto get some satin sheets still. But when I DO get to go out with some help and a ride I love it. Especially my coffee trip. I go in this monday, so, I'll post for you mid week next week (I hope) lol I ain't makin any promises!!

I lived on frozen fooRAB, and what I did do was when there was good leftovers that I knew the kiRAB wouldn't eat but I would, my mother would freeze them in portions and I'd just haveto microwave them. I lived out of the microwave and on cold pasta salad in the fridge, but again I was badly hurt in one day and was 2 months before surgery, then reherniated bigger- so this time around I may not be so bad?>??? I dunno? lol

I can't do the cart, its too hard for me to push it and it stirrs up my back just as much as my trying to walk on my own. If someone pulls the cart so I don't haveto push I can use it and lean on it though.

OMG!

I had to go out today, by myself, with my daughter, and my whole body is shaking right now. I nearly collapsed a million times, and now I feel like I have been hit by a bus. i felt like we would never get home, but when we finally did, I realized we had only been gone about an hour. It felt like ages because it was so painful and my legs are so weak. My pain level right now is an 8-9, and I can hardly walk, worse than normal, just from running couple of erranRAB. This is pathetic.
