Left Side Headache! Help.

I have been having an almost constant headache on my left side for about a week. When I first noticed the problem it felt like a fullness in my ear all of a sudden. I took a Reactine and the fullness seemed to go away, but then the pain started. Behind my left ear was a sharp pain, the type that you would expect to disappear as it is so sudden, but it stuck around. The pain then radiated up toward my Left Eye, at which point it felt more like a numbness. Very strange as I am not even prone to headaches in general. The headaches seem to be more irritating now then overly painful, but the feeling is always there behind my left ear. Nothing seems to help for very long.

Does anyone know if this is allergy related or something more serious? I am kinda hoping its easily explained, but don't have time to go to the clinic only to be sent away and told to take Tylenol and check back in a week.

Any feedback would be appreciated, Thanks in advance.

are you prone to migrane headaches,or is there any family history of actual migrane in your family? that would be the first thing to consider since this is only on one side. but there could be many many different reasons for anyones head pain that really do need to be looked into more in depth. have you ever had this happen before this one episode?

i would see your doc about this since alot of different problems/conditions we can have start with very pronounced head pain. you just have to rule certain things out in order to arrive at the reason/diagnosis. obtaining an MRI WITH a contrasting agent would really be the best place to start(only because this would show the soft tissue and the arteries really well).

you just really do not have a clue as to what is even possible to have going on within our own bodies til we can get that better look inside. and in your particular case,a contrasted MRI would either rule something in, or out at the very least. but you DO need to find out just what is generating this for you. the sooner the better. just make that appt with your primary and ask about getting the contrasted MRI done. it really is the quickest way to really see whats up,vs trying this med and waiting and trying that med type of treatment? good luck to you, please keep me posted as to what you find out. Thanks FB, and to answer your question I am not prone to migraines, nor am I prone to any headaches really. I will give it a few more days and see how it feels. Unfortunately the health care system is terrible in my city and for that reason I do not have a family doctor here. I have to go to a walk-in clinic or sit in emergency at the hospital to get any kind of care. So, maybe on Tuesday morning I can do that if this continues.

Chongo, I suppose I can't rule out sinus infection but I don't feel sick at all and this has been going on for over a week with no further symptoms. Maybe an Ear infection? If so I am thinking it may be derived from my allergies. I have developed some allergies over the past few years to dust I think. Maybe some other things to, I am always stuffy in the morning, watery and very itchy eyes and tear ducts too. Thanks for the advice ladies!

Is it possible you could simply have sinus pressure? Do you ever take a sudafed or other nasal decongestant? It may help you and clear up the symptoms. Obviously, if you're not better in a day or two you need to have it checked out, but I'd try some sinus remedies first. Hope you feel better soon!

Hi there,

I just joined this site to find out about some dental pain, but having been plagues by headaches all my life, I can truly empathize!
I do get migraines and they are almost always on one side, but then I become irritaded by noises, bright lights, and my head hurts a lot more if I bend down forwards to pick something up (oh yeah, and nausea!) - these are common side effects from migraines from everything I have been told, and from what I've read. People get an assortment of accomanying side effects from them.
The medication prescribed to mefor my miograines that seems to help most for them, is Imitrax nasal spray 20 mg.

Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2002, and my Dr. is the head of the MS clinic in Montreal! He told me that MS can cause headaches on one side and they can last quite a while too!
So between the headaches caused by Migraines, and MS - I also have them from seasonal allergies, tension, etc...

If it is definitely NOT a migraine, I would go for an MRI. I put it off for years, thus only being diagnosed seven years ago instead of at age 18!

If you still have your headache, or if you get one of these again - a neurologist is the person I would go see. There are other things that are neuropathic and can cause these headaches...

Wishing you all the best,

LadyEdington :)
