I was at school sitting on the computer doing my homework as I do everyday for a few hours, I left to go eat subways then I ordered this vemon drink (stupid name for a drink, why would I order poison?) it was an energy drink and I needed the boost to keep me awake, I rarely drink this crap, maybe once every two months.

While I was walking back to the computer lab I noticed a small pinch or knot in my left lower back, located about equal with my nipple and exactly 1 inch left of my spine, the pain isn't located on the skin but rather deeper, perhaps in or past the muscle.

If I stretch my back which I have been doing constantly since I found this pain or if I straighten my back, the way you do when your mother tells you not to slouch, the pain intensifies. The pain is about a 2-3 on the scale, mild discomfort but to be honest I'm worried, I've never had something like this before. I've had back pain when I was younger due to lack of exercise, sitting on the computer too much but now I am active. Last time I was checked I was positive for TB, which is strange because I had the immunization shot when I was a child. I work in a health facility.

Thank you for reading. I'm planning to set up an appointment with a general practitioner if pain persists in the next following days.

daz3dpanda,

This sounRAB like it is most likely a muscle strain problem. It's hard to say for sure since the back is so complicated, but it would be best to keep an eye on it and if it doesn't resolve within a few weeks get it checked out. Applying ice a couple of times a day may help as well as taking some over the counter pain relievers or anti-inflammatories.

Good luck!

It really does sound like muscle strain and usually with a few days of relaxation the pain will pass. Also, alternating ice and heat at 15 minute intervals will prove very beneficial. The ice will help reduce any inflammation that might be occurring and the heat will help to relax your back. Also, having someone gently massage your back may help as well.

I have found OTC Ibuprofen liquid gels to be quite beneficial in reducing inflammation and pain.

Definitely, rest for the next few days and if the pain persists see your Doctor. I hope you get relief from the pain soon.
